As an administrative agent at the Goddard Project (TGP), a
covert intelligence
agency, Beth Whitney is used to working with agents and
their dedication to
the job. Her father was also an agent and his absence from
many important
events while she was growing up made Beth realized it's not
something she
wants for her own relationship. Beth was also left at the
altar by her agent
fiance three years ago, further solidifying her decision to
never date an agent.
Still, that doesn't stop her from fantasizing about Ethan
Crane, one of the
Goddard Project agents who has the body of a Greek god and
the charm and
demeanor to match. Beth has had a crush on Ethan since her
first day at the
agency, but she knows enough to stay away from the playboy
type and,
besides, he's an agent. But when her father hires her
ex-fiance as a TGP
agent, Beth begins to notice Ethan noticing her more than
ever before. Could
he be jealous or is her mind playing tricks on her?
When a case forces Beth and Ethan to work together and
pretend to be
dating, the forced intimacy causes them both to have to
acknowledge the
feelings between them. Ethan admits that he finds Beth
attractive, but that he
is not looking for a relationship. Beth admits that she's
always wanted Ethan,
but that she's not willing to have her heart broken for a
night's passion. Will
these two be able to put their differences aside and make
their relationship
work?
SATISFACTION GUARANTEED does a good job of attempting to
deliver what
its title promises, but doesn't quite pull it off without a
hitch. Beth is
presented as a strong and decisive female character who
knows what she
wants. She's had her heart broken before and is willing to
put her complete
happiness aside to ensure that it doesn't happen again. But
when she's in
Ethan's arms she begins to forget the promises she'd made
herself and start
to dream of a future as an agent's wife. Ethan, likewise,
knows his own mind
and what he wants. He is known as "the Stud" and lives up to
the title. He
likes to date, but has no plans to settle down in the near
future. Being around
Beth makes him question the life decisions he's made and
wonder if there
might be more out there than meaningless sex without emotion.
The case that draws these two together is also what gives
this story its only
flaw. I feel that too much emphasis was placed on the
espionage storyline
and not enough on developing the relationship between the
hero and heroine
in a way that the reader could relate to. Still, Monroe does
deliver steamy,
passionate interactions between these two that had me
rooting from page
to page for them to get together. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED
doesn't
necessarily deliver all that its title promises, but it
comes close enough to
definitely make it worth reading.
Anytime, anyplace, Ethan Crane's your man. An agent's
agent, he’s tough, smart, and fearless. Exactly the guy you
want when the stuff hits the fan—and precisely the kind
Beth Whitney avoids like the plague. It took a fiancé (make
that ex-fiancé) in the business to teach her, but she's
learned her lesson: Don't. Date. Agents. Ever. It's this
little rule that's kept her gainfully employed at the
agency, doing her part for world security from behind a
desk. So when a case throws the two together, Beth's
determined to keep it strictly professional. So far, so
good—except for the steamy kisses, the red-hot phone sex,
and...What was that rule again?
To Ethan, Beth couldn't be less his type if her father ran
the agency, which, oh yeah, her father does run the agency.
Still he can't help but be impressed by her inspired work
in the field—a total turn on. Off the field it’s even
better. Seems the old adage that opposites attract happens
to agents too. Even if Beth insists it’s just a fantasy.
But hot pursuit of a notorious information broker is what
they should focus on—not each other. That can wait until
they’ve accomplished a job well done. Or can it?
