Vax is a witch -- and a Hunter. But he hasn't hunted evil
for years; not since he had to kill his wife almost a
century ago.
Jess is a reporter. Not long ago, she was investigating a
string of missing girls when her younger sister went
missing and was later found tortured, raped and murdered as
a warning to her to stop the investigation. But Jess
discovers at least one of the men involved in her sister's
death is a vampire and she's determined to find everyone
involved and make sure each one pays.
Vax is drawn into this situation despite his determination
not to do so and not to care. Before long, they're working
together to find all the men involved, because Vax learns
they're using the missing girls in experiments to give
shape shifters and vampires powers only a witch possesses.
If they succeed in getting a few of those creatures under
their control, they could turn the paranormal world upside
down.
I love the Hunters books by Ms. Walker. I'm always pulled
immediately into the world of the Hunters and am always
sorry when the story ends. Complicated enough to be
interesting, with very life-like, smart-ass characters,
they stay with you long after you've turned the last page.
I can hardly wait for the next one. A good read.
Vax was once committed to his life as a Hunter, tracking
down the evil beings who prey on humans, but he opted out
of the game long ago. Now, somebody, somewhere, is in
danger. And, despite his best efforts, Vax can't ignore his
calling.
