Ancient Furnace Jennifer Scales is determined to bring
peace among the weres and the beaststalkers. In what she
sees as a step in the right direction, she invites her
friends Susan, Skip and Eddie to Crescent Valley. Things go
wrong almost from the beginning after her mother and father
join the group -- the elders don't approve of wereachnid
Skip knowing the location of the ancient gathering place; a
long-ago incident threatens Elizabeth Scales; and
beaststalker Eddie is less that stellar in the bravery
department before the intimidating dragons in the welcoming
committee. Friendships are threatened before peace between
enemies can even be discussed, and the impromptu peace
delegation leaves Crescent Valley in disgrace.
In an effort to apologize for his part in the Crescent
Valley fiasco, Skip invites Jennifer for ice cream.
Overwhelmed by how wrong everything has gone, Jennifer
falls asleep when she and Skip stop in the park. When she
awakens, she finds herself in an alternate universe, where
weredragons have been hunted to near extinction and
wereachnids have taken over the town. Skip explains how
some powerful sorcery has come into play and the world
Jennifer once knew, and all the people in it, are gone.
Unwilling to accept what has happened, Jennifer goes along
with Skip and agrees to lay low and investigate the strange
goings on before attempting to change things back to the
way they were. Jennifer struggles in a world where
everything is so familiar, and yet so wrong. When her
dragon identity is discovered, she's forced to flee and
heads for Crescent Valley. There she discovers friends in
former enemies, enemies in those she believed friends, and
an ancient prophecy that may save them all, if she can work
with the half-sister she battled to the death less than a
month ago.

Scaly skin, family fights...it's tough being a teenage
dragon.
Jennifer was just starting to get comfortable in her own
skin, scaly as it is. She should have known that, as half-
were dragon, half-beaststalker, things don't stay normal
for too long...
Following through on a promise made to her mother, Jennifer
agrees to go to Crescent Valley, where Jennifer and her
father find refuge with other weredragons, and where they
meet Xavier Longtail. Xavier, a powerful elder dragon,
doesn't believe in peaceful co-existence, and after he
stirs up trouble in her family, Jennifer wonders if he
isn't right. She's about to go nuts with all the fighting,
when her ex, Skip, comes to her rescue and whisks her off
to the movies, where she falls asleep...
Waking up, Jennifer finds her hometown overrun by
weachnids, dangerous half-werewolves, half-spiders.
Weredragons are long extinct...except for Jennifer, of
course, and the ominous Xavier Longtail, and it's up to
them to return the universe to normal. Can they trust each
other enough to pull it off-or are they the last of a dying
breed?
