Contemporary Chick Lit

Going to the shore on the weekends is a ritual as cherished and time-honored among the greater part of the Northeastern population as celebrating Christmas is to the rest of us. Everybody who is anybody, and anybody who wants to be "anybody" makes the weekly trek from the "city" to the "shore" for a little fun in the sun and surf. The more affluent rent fabulous beach-front houses for the summer, and those who aren't so affluent rent rooms in these houses.

Zoe finds herself in the latter category when she lets herself be talked into going in with her best friends, Sage and Nick, to rent rooms from Sage's boss Tom and his trophy wife Maggie on Fire Island. But she wonders if it was that great of an idea when on the first weekend she goes out to the house, Maggie is found drowned on the beach in front of the house. Zoe finds the death suspicious and begins to nose around and asking questions that soon arouse discomfort among the island's residents.

Sage rented a room from her boss for a myriad of reasons, the upper most to have access to him to pass along her ideas and plans for the leather company he owns and she is in upper management of. When Tom's wife dies unexpectedly, Sage is surprised to be promoted into Maggie's position as head of the company and soon begins to put her mark on the line of clothing. She becomes friendly with handsome fellow employee, Vince, who has just returned from Italy where he was the company's leather buyer. Their relationship begins to blossom and Sage is satisified, except for the nagging suspicions that Zoe has planted in her mind regarding Maggie and Vince's past relationships.

Nick is just at the beach to find contacts that will help him in his fledgling record company. Maggie had expressed an interest in it, but her death brought a close to that deal, that is, until he receives a check made out by Maggie before her death. Rationalizing that it was her dying wish for him to use the money for the company, Nick makes fast work of the funds, and soon finds himself in deeper than he expected to be. His love life also finds a deep and unexpected turn when Tom's daughter, Francesca, begins to come on to him.

The three roommates and friends find their lives entertwined during this summer of mystery, death, and deception in Lynda Curnyn's novel, KILLER SUMMER. Curnyn weaves her fascinating tale of intrigue and titillation with smooth dialogue and interesting characters that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. KILLER SUMMER is a great read for the shore, or in your own backyard!

SUMMARY

Sharing a beach house on Fire Island seems like a killer way for best friends Zoe, Sage and Nick to spend summer together. But just as they're dreaming of sunset margaritas and late-night barbecues, the body of their house hostess washes up on the beach. Talk about a buzz kill…

Now all Zoe can think about is why the "grieving" husband is planning parties rather than mourning his wife. Nick suddenly has secrets he can't tell a soul. And Sage is trying to score booty as if it's her last summer on earth…which it just might be. Because despite the ocean views and endless parties, Zoe, Sage and Nick have stopped wondering if the good times will last and started wondering if they will...
