Hawk Morgan knows what it's like to not fit in anywhere.
Half Comanche, Hawk left his Indian family at the age of 10
to live with his white father's family when his mother
died. He grew up in a loving environment and even met a
woman and fell in love. Married and living among his loving
family, life was good for Hawk, until the day Apache
warriors raided his home while he was out on the range and
brutally killed his wife and family.
Ten years later, in the 1870s, Texans still had a hard time
accepting Indians and even more so, half-breeds. Hawk has
moved around, never feeling at home or at peace. A local
sheriff, who's befriended Hawk and uses his tracking
expertise, asks Hawk to help out a friend of his whose
ranch is suffering from cattle rustlers.
Hawk accepts the job and travels to the ranch where he
meets up with a runaway horse carrying what he perceives to
be a young boy. Hawk races to save the boy only to discover
that he isn't a boy and doesn't need rescuing.
Randi Stockton looks back to see an Indian chasing her,
fearful as he overtakes her and speaks to her in English.
Soon, Randi discovers Hawk isn't quite what he seems, he's
special.
While Hawk assists Randi's father in trying to discover who
is rustling cattle, Randi and Hawk grow closer. But when
her father and Hawk are shot and Randi is taken prisoner,
everyone learns that Hawk truly is a warrior as he tracks
the person who kidnapped Randi and refuses to stop until he
brings her home.
This is a moving story about a man finding his place in the
world and a strong-willed woman who knows a good man when
she finds him. Hawk's love for Randi gives him the strength
to not give up, to search until he finds her, and in that
search, find his peace. I enjoyed reading Ms. Smith's
HALFBREED WARRIOR. Hopefully, you will too.
