High school teacher Shannon Parker is magically transported
to another world after she comes into contact with an
ancient Celtic vase that bears her likeness. Shannon awakes
in her new reality to find she's switched places with her
doppelganger, Rhiannon, who in turn has been transported to
Shannon's world and has taken her place teaching English to
hormonally challenged adolescents in Oklahoma.
Shannon has to come up to speed quickly to survive in her
new role. As Goddess Incarnate of Epona, Shannon is
responsible for the welfare of a nation. Coerced into a
political marriage with a Centaur chieftain, Shannon and
her new husband unite their people in a fierce battle
against the Fomorians, a vampire-like race who threatens to
overrun and destroy their world. And even if Shannon and
ClanFintan win the battle with the Fomorians, there's still
the "real" Rhiannon to contend with.
Disillusioned with life in Oklahoma, Rhiannon is determined
to return to her own life as Goddess. For that to happen,
Shannon has to leave hearth, home and husband -- all that
she's learned to love and hold dear.
I loved this story the first time I read it in small press
form as "Goddess by Mistake" a few years ago and I loved it
this time, too. A lot has been added to this edition. It's
not just an old book with a new cover and title, but a
total rewrite. P.C.Cast is an excellent writer and
it is great to have seen her go from small press to a major
publisher. No one deserves it more. That she's a teacher,
too, is just icing on the cake.
The most excitement teacher Shannon Parker expected on her
summer vacation was a little shopping. But then her latest
purchase—a vase with the Celtic goddess Epona on it—
somehow switches her into the world of Partholon, where
she's treated like a goddess. A very temperamental goddess…
It seems that Shannon has stepped into another's role as
the Goddess Incarnate of Epona. And while it has some very
appealing moments—what woman doesn't like a little
pampering now and then?—it also comes with a ritual
marriage to a centaur and the threat of war against the
evil Fomorians. Oh, and everyone disliking her because
they think she's her double.
Somehow Shannon needs to figure out how to get back to
Oklahoma without being killed, married to a horse or
losing her mind….
