Romance Suspense

Jackson's assistant district attorney, Grace Montgomery, has a choice to make. She must go back to Stillwater to face her tortured past or loose the man she now wants to marry. Not an easy choice when going home could cause her to have to dredge up more than just her history. Stillwater is a small town with a big grudge against her family, and she holds the key to the mystery they want solved. Her stepfather, the revered reverend, disappeared when she was thirteen. The town cried foul play, but without a body, they couldn't prove a thing. Unwilling to go to the farm that still gives her nightmares, Grace returns to her recently deceased friend's home in town. There she meets a young boy who befriends her. Unfortunately the boy's dad, Kennedy Archer, is currently running for town major and being seen with "Grinding Gracie" could ruin his future. Kennedy was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and married his childhood sweetheart. His life was great until his former wife died leaving him the father of two boys and conscience that won't let him forget how he did nothing to help Grace when she was younger. It doesn't hurt either that she has turned out to be such a successful beauty who has the courage to look the town men straight in the eye. As the sparks fly between the two of them, things heat up with the townspeople. Someone is going to pay for the reverend's disappearance. His nephew and Kennedy's best friend, Joe, is going to make sure of it. Now Kennedy has a choice to make -- side with his best friend or do right by the woman he is falling in love with. As the mystery starts to unravel, the town chooses sides. The evidence may be buried, but the truth is not what it seems.

With DEAD SILENCE you get suspense and romance. It's like having your cake and eating it too. But be prepared to want another piece. I couldn't even put this book down. It was like an addiction. I love the fact that Ms. Kovak allows you to think you know what is going to happen just before she jerks the rug out from under you. The characters are real, and the story is intriguing. I've never read a book that was so predictably unpredictable. With this being the first in a series, it leaves you wanting to know more about the town of Stillwater and the mysteries that remain uncovered.

SUMMARY

Grace Montgomery knows who it is, and she knows why it happened. She was only thirteen the night it all went wrong. And now, like then, she has no choice but to keep her mouth shut.

Grace left the town of Stillwater thirteen years ago, trying to forget, trying to make good. As an assistant D.A. in Jackson, she's finally achieved the success that was supposed to change her life. But it hasn't -- so she's come back to confront her own history. Which means returning to the farmhouse now owned by her brother and facing the people of Stillwater, a number of whom suspect the truth.

Widower Kennedy Archer is one of those people. He's running for mayor and needs to stay as far away from Grace as possible. And yet... she's an enigma he can't resist. Even though her enemies are close to finding out what really happened -- and that could ruin them both.
