When you fall deeply in love, it is for keeps and "till death does us part". So, even after four years, Sabine still aches for Victor, her beloved older husband, who was killed by an avalanche while cross-country skiing. A widow in her twenties, Sabine Knoll, not only misses his caressing touch, but also his wisdom, humour, and guiding hand in helping her cope with their three lively children and to cover expenses. While she could get money from selling his sledding business, she prefers to shovel snow for other people to make ends meet, rather than make any changes to how Victor left things.

Her bubble of defense is sharply poked when Joe arrives in her small town of Oro, Colorado and wants to buy Victor's business. Not only does he claim to be Victor's previous business partner, but drops a bomb on her when he tells her that he is Victor's younger brother. What else had Victor hidden from her all these years?

For himself, Joe is still torn by conflicting emotions. His heart reaches out to Sabine and her family, but he still harbours feelings of revenge against Victor for marrying his fiancée, Teresa, and he has distant mountains to conquer. Joe is an famous internationally recognized guide and he didn't want Sabine's need for stability and safety to interfere with his adventurous nature. Could he be happy with her in this tiny town? Did either of them dare let their hearts take over?

Margot Early had crafted an interesting romantic tale of new beginnings and overcoming the hurts that splinter people. She has developed strong dialogue between the main characters as they interact with each other and as they deal with their own memories and emotions. While some of the secondary characters seemed a little contrived, such as a real estate agent who regularly babysits at six in the morning, their actions effectively serve to move the plot along. The setting and insights into the mountaineering lifestyle seem very authentic and add to the reading pleasure. You will enjoy the ups and downs of this family lost and family regained mountain tale!

SUMMARY

Sometimes a family resemblance is hard to see...especially if you're not looking for one. And Sabine Knoll isn't.

She's the widow of Victor Knoll and the mother of his three children. She loved him — deeply — and even though he's been gone four years, she can't imagine loving anyone else.

Then a man named Joe appears in her small town of Oro, Colorado. Joe Knoll. Victor's brother. Except that Victor never told her he had a brother. And if he'd lied about that, had he lied about other things, too?

Sabine isn't sure she wants to know. She is sure she doesn't want to fall in love with this man who resembles her husband in some ways, yet not in others. The man who's becoming a part of her children's lives — and of hers.
