Nothing can match Olivia Bellamy's determination to make
her grandparents' celebration of their fifty wedding
anniversary a success, even if it meant hiring the very man
who first broke her heart when she was a young teen. While
still bruised from a third romance that tanked and went
south on her, the beautiful blonde Olivia was reluctant at
first to get involved in this huge undertaking. Once she
saw the love in her grandmother's eyes and realized how
much it meant to her, she knew she would do anything to
bring back the enchantment that was once part of her
grandparents' lives when they first developed Camp Kioga in
the Catskills.
For his part, the roguishly handsome Connor Davis, didn't
even recognize his teenage best friend "Ollie" when he
first biked up to check out the new job. How Ollie had
changed! Gone was the chubbiness that was her defense
mechanism against her stylish mother and the rest of the
world who didn't understand her. Here instead was this
gorgeous woman he couldn't wait to kiss! Yet, despite
their initial testiness, one thing was clearly apparent.
Connor could still read Ollie like a book and he knew
exactly what Ollie had in mind and he had the skills to
make it happen.
To help Olivia out in transforming the sadly neglected Camp
back to its glory, her dazzling cousin Dare and other
family members were also roped in for the summer. Her best
friend, Freddy, himself a talented set designer and
temporarily out of work, also offered to spend the summer
at Willow Lake with Olivia. Would this be a time when their
feelings for each other would change?
Meanwhile, as they get busy shaking out the dust and
cobwebs, a few family and romantic secrets also are swept
out from the dark corners. How would people deal with
their past trysts when so much trust betrayed? The ripples
of lost love only circle out further to touch the
unsuspecting.
Susan Wiggs has crafted a wonderful summertime story
of two very strong willed characters coming to grips with
their own demons as well as each other. Like the ever
rippling holes left by canoe paddles in the water, the main
plot is expanded by the stories of other family members,
both on the Bellamy and Davis side, who also have to
confront their own past and current family situations. The
author effortlessly weaves in the broken threads of the
stories by the use of memory flashbacks and dialogue
interactions that add their own sparkle. So, pack yourself
off to a warm and sunny spot with a glass of lovely cool
wine and immerse yourself in this delightful read. Take
the time to think about your own summer days that linger in
your past. For, you will wait with impatience for the
leaves to fall, the snow to come, and the final arrival
of "The Winter Lodge" in February 2007 - the next book in
the Lakeshore Chronicles series! I Can't belirve I am
looking forward to winter!
Real estate expert Olivia Bellamy reluctantly trades a
trendy Manhattan summer for her family's old resort camp in
the Catskills, where her primary task will be renovating
the
bungalow colony for her grandparents, who want one last
summer together filled with fun, friends and family. A posh
resort in its heyday, the camp is now in disarray and
Olivia
is forced to hire contractor Connor Davis -- a
still-smoldering flame from her own summers at camp. But as
the days grow warm, not even the inviting blue waters of
Willow Lake can cool the passions flaring or keep shocking
secrets at bay. The nostalgic joy of summers past breathes
new promise into a special place and people . . . a promise
meant to last long after the season ends.
