Last
week, you learned about the first half the authors I met at The Poisoned Pen in
Scottsdale, Arizona. This week, I have the second group of fantastic books for you to check
out. They are the perfect escape from the holiday bustle that seems to have started before
Thanksgiving arrived!
Just for you, these authors have created fantasy worlds
through loads of research. If you’d like to attend the annual Birding Expo with J.R. Ripley, pick
up a copy of A Bird Lover’s Mystery
, it’s sure to capture your attention. Book #8, A
Birder’s Guide to Murder released this
month!
If you want to travel to the wine country, JC Eaton has an
intoxicating series, The Wine Lovers
Mysteries. Book #2, Chardonnayed to Rest, released
in October and is a perfect blend of warm-hearted community with secrets that will keep you
guessing.
Cheryl Hollon’s
Shattered at Sea,
A Webb’s Glass Shop Mystery, will open your eyes to the art of glass blowing and cast your imagination out to
sea with the beauty and intrigue that occurs when a passenger disappears on a cruise liner.
To round out my recommendations, a bit of historical noir will
ground you with how much our society has changed, and how far we have to go to open our
eyes to the sinister machinations hiding among some of the elite. Rosemary Simpson’s new
release, Let the Dead Keep Their Secrets,
A Gilded Age Mystery #3, is sure to captivate
you through the last page.

A flying visit to the City of Brotherly Love takes a murderous turn for
Amy Simms, owner of Birds & Bees.
Amy and her bird-loving crew are ducking out of Ruby Lake, North
Carolina to attend the annual American Birding Expo in Philadelphia. The event will generate
publicity for Birds & Bees, though assistant manager Esther is strangely reluctant to
attend. Before she’s even set up their booth, Amy manages to insult JJ Fuller, famed bird
photographer and the expo’s guest of honor. An inauspicious beginning, made worse when JJ
is found dead as a dodo, his head caved in by a pair of binoculars.
The police suspect Esther is mixed up in murder, and her mysterious
past starts coming to light. Amy isn’t sure what to believe. JJ boasted
that he would be the first to locate a near-extinct woodpecker. Did a
rival decide to beat him—literally—to the punch? With a ZombieFest
convention taking place in the exhibit hall next door, there’s all kinds of creepiness to contend
with. And somewhere among the birders and the walking dead there’s a killer hoping to fly the
coop before justice is served . . .

have to close her vineyard.
Before the rent hike could go into effect, Wilkes is found dead on Roslaee’s property—stabbed
by a flowerpot stake—and she becomes the police’s number one suspect. To clear her friend’s
name, Norrie conducts her own investigation. But as she gathers clues, Norrie finds
herself targeted by a killer, and if she’s not careful, her desire to see justice done may die on

In Gilded Age New York, heiress Prudence MacKenzie and ex-Pinkerton Geoffrey Hunter
investigate crimes that take them from the slums of Five Points in lower Manhattan to the Fifth
Avenue mansions of society's elite. In the late nineteenth century, women are particularly
vulnerable . . .
Childbirth can be dangerous even for the wealthy. So when opera
singer Claire Buchanan shows Prudence and Geoffrey a postmortem
cabinet photograph of her deceased twin sister and newborn niece,
they express sadness but not surprise. The popular black-bordered
portraits are the era's way of coping with the devastating losses that
plague every family. What makes this death different is that Claire is
convinced Catherine and her child were murdered.
Prudence's friend is haunted by a sense of her sister's lingering
presence, and by the conviction that her dead twin is demanding
justice. Catherine's widower, Aaron Sorensen, is a cold, controlling man who swiftly remarried.
Now his second wife is already pregnant and may be in terrible danger. In order to discover
the truth and find
evidence of Sorensen's guilt, Geoffrey will delve deep into his past
while Prudence casts herself as his next victim—putting her own life at grave risk . . .
