My name is Daralyse
Lyons and I am the author of 20 novels and, today, I've decided to sit down
with one of my characters, Laura Cutty, for a chat about life, love and
how to keep the romance alive. Before we launch in, what you should know about
Laura is that she's married to a murderer. That's right. Laura knew when she
married him that Thomas Cutty was a killer. She accepts that about him, just as
he accepts everything distasteful about her – like the way she cracks her
knuckles when nervous or uses the last of the toilet paper without replacing the
roll. Twelve years of marriage and two beautiful babies later, and Laura and
Thomas have learned to love the life they built together – a life that depends
on Laura never asking the question: Who did Thomas kill last night?
So here I am, sitting across from Laura, each with our cups of hot cinnamon
spice tea, and we're talking about romance because I am regrettably single and
she is blissfully attached and I figure I have a lot to learn from her.
Me: Hi Laura. Thanks for sitting down with me today.
Laura: No problem. It's nice to take a break from the status-quo.
Me: Speaking of status quo, how do you deal with the fact that your life
is anything but predictable?
Laura: (Laughs) Believe it or not, my life isn't all that different than
most. I take care of the kids, the house, chores, all that… And I do my best to
find time to ride my horse.
Me: When you're not washing away blood, that is.
Laura. That's right. Luckily, Thomas isn't inordinately messy.
Me: Is it hard being married to a murderer?
Laura: No more stressful than being married to an athlete. He's pursuing
his dream and I support him in that, but wish he were home more.
Me: Speaking of athletes, I'm sure you've heard all about the recent
celebrity scandals involving unfaithful athletes. Do you ever worry about Thomas
being untrustworthy?
Laura: Never. My husband and I trust one another implicitly. Thomas is
the best man I know.
Me: You sound very in love.
Laura: I am. More and more each day.
Me: So what's something that's hard about your relationship?
Laura: Internally, not much. We are very connected and happy. But, right
now, there are a lot of external stressors.
Me: Such as….
Laura: Oh gosh. So many. Wondering if the cops are going to arrest him,
or if the kids will find out where he goes at night, or if one of his potential
victims will defend themselves and I'll wind up a widow. Honestly, there are so
many harrowing moments I could write a book about them.
And guess what? She does! If you want to read more about what it's like to be
married to a murderer, check out THE MURDERER'S WIFE on Amazon.com written by me, from Laura's perspective.

In the second grade, Dara (or “Daralyse Lyons” as her angry teacher called
her) was sent to the principal’s office for misbehaving. When she arrived,
instead of going in to see the principal and accepting her punishment, Daralyse
lied about having a stomachache and needing to see the nurse. She’s been telling
stories and putting on performances ever since.
She wears many hats as an author, actress, yogi, and transformational
coach/speaker, but the common thematic elements to all her endeavors is her love
of stories and desire to help people find happiness. A summa cum laude graduate
of New York University with a double-major in English Literature and Religious
Studies and a minor in History, Daralyse brings intelligence, sensitivity,
enthusiasm, creativity and business acumen to all of her endeavors. She lives
in the quaint Mount Airy section of Philadelphia.
