As part of our countdown to Readers & ‘ritas 2017, our
Meet the
Author interview series helps you get to know the authors joining us in
Texas on November 10-12. Read on to get acquainted with author T.M. Smith, and purchase your tickets to meet her in person at Readers &
‘ritas!
What book made you fall in love with the genre you write?
I have always read gay romance, so it made sense to me to write what I like
to read.
If a movie were made of your most recent book, who would you cast in
the lead and why?
I have a new release coming at the end of October, SURVIVOR, and the lead
character is based on Matthew Daddario, the actor who plays Alec Lightwood
on the TV show Shadowhunters. I guess it's fitting that Matthew D
plays a gay character on the show.
What was the first story you ever wrote?
OPPOSITES. It's an adult dystopian LGBT
romance series.
If you could change the ending to any famous book, TV show, or
movie, what would it be and how would you rewrite it? (Spoiler alert!)
The last book in the Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood series pissed me
off severely. I mean, seriously, Sookie belonged to Eric, there's no
question. All through the books he did anything, everything, and then some
to make sure Sookie was his, that she always came back to him. But in the
end, he politely walked away and she ended up with Sam??! I felt like the
author "phoned in" the last half of the final book. As a fan, I was upset
and felt cheated. So I'd change that. Sookie and Eric!
What is your favorite part of meeting your readers? New readers?
I love to hear what readers think of the stories I write and the characters
I create. It's always humbling to me when readers rave about their favorite
character(s). And I'm always ready to welcome to new readers into the fold.
I know gay romance isn't necessarily everyone's cup of tea, but if you give
me five minutes, I'll do my best to convince you!
