By Hitchcock, of the Bad Luck Cat Mysteries by Kay Finch

Cats aren't often asked to speak their mind, so when I get a chance like this I'm going to take advantage. My name is Hitchcock, and I'm a coal black cat. I was pretty much nameless until I decided to hang with Sabrina Tate in Lavender, Texas, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Sabrina's a mystery writer, and she has this idea in her head that my presence helps her write suspenseful scenes in her fiction. Thus the name Hitchcock, which is fine by me. So long as I can live with Sabrina at the Around-The-World Cottages owned by her Aunt Rowe, I'm happy.

Sabrina and I live in the Monte Carlo cottage on the banks of the Glidden River, and things are peaceful most of the time. Until people start saying I'm some legendary bad luck cat. Maybe I look like this legendary cat. I guess he existed at some point in time because everyone (except Sabrina) seems to believe the legend. I'm only five years old, so there's no possible way I could know for sure if this legend they're talking about truly existed back in the day or if he caused his share of bad luck. If he did, then it was just a fluke, because black cats are not bad luck.

Poor Sabrina, bless her heart, spends so much time worrying about me and solving mysteries that she doesn't have a lot of focus left for her writing. I help her with the mystery-solving however I can, and I may have actually saved Sabrina's life a time or two. With all modesty aside, I'm smarter than the average cat. I don't have any special powers, but I'm tricky and fast. I can slip in and out of tight spaces in the time it takes you to blink, so it's hard for the average human to know whether I'm coming or going.

I'm having a grand time here in Lavender, watching the antics of Aunt Rowe and her friends, not to mention the cottage guests. I plan to stick around as long as they'll have me. You can read about my adventures in Black Cat Crossing and The Black Cat Knocks on Wood where Sabrina has her hands full when Aunt Rowe and her gal pals plan to perform in the Lavender Senior Pro Rodeo. Before Sabrina can keep the ladies from mounting their steeds, she’s sidetracked by a bigger problem. An uppity local business owner is found dead in an accident – right after a black cat was seen in her office. No, it wasn’t me, and that’s the God’s honest truth, but you know how people are. They’re quick to say the bad luck cat was involved. Sabrina has other ideas, and I’ll have to help her round up clues quickly before we’re steered straight into the path of danger.

Hope you enjoy the book, and don’t forget to give your cat a hug from me.

About THE BLACK CAT KNOCKS ON WOOD

The Black Cat
Knocks on Wood

The author of Black Cat Crossing is back as mystery novelist Sabrina Tate and her cat Hitchcock find themselves roped into another dangerous murder case...

Sabrina finds it difficult to work on her latest suspense novel when her Aunt Rowe’s antics keep tying up her thoughts. This time Rowe and her fun-loving friends have decided to compete in the upcoming Texas Hill Country Senior Pro Rodeo. The problem is these women have little to no experience with lassos, bulls, or even horseback riding.

Before Sabrina can keep the stubborn seniors from mounting their steeds, she’s sidetracked by a bigger problem. An uppity local business owner is found dead in an accident—right after a black cat was seen in her office. While the townsfolk think the bad luck cat has struck again, Sabrina suspects there might be something more murderous afoot. With a twisted killer on the loose, she’ll have to round up clues quickly before she or her aunt are steered straight into the path of danger...
