Marissa Clarke | Busting Out that Bucket List
November 18, 2015
My recent release, CHANCE OF A LIFETIME, is a romantic comedy centering around
a
bucket list written by the heroine when she was fifteen. I can’t even imagine
what kind of things would have been on my teenage bucket list, but I imagine it
would be absolutely horrifying.
The heroine, Gen, wants to do the following (remember the list was written a
decade earlier, when she was only fifteen):
1. Kiss a total stranger
2. Ride a rollercoaster
3. Skydive
4. Run through the fountain at Columbus Circle
5. Skinny dip
6. Ride in a speedboat
7. Dance in the rain
8. Play Spin the Bottle
9. Sleep under the stars
10. Lose it
I don’t have a bucket list, but I imagine it would be topped with things like,
take a complete day off, or travel to (fill in the blank) and turn off all Wi-
Fi.
A far cry from my adventuresome self as a teen, who might have topped the list
with bungee jumping in New Zealand.
My daughter has a list and we’ve had a blast knocking items off of it. Here are
the first three, which we’ve already accomplished (I’m stopping there since she
deserves some privacy, I suppose).
1. Meet Patrick Rothfuss (author of King Killer Chronicles)
2. Meet Anne Rice (Author of Vampire Chronicles)
3. See a live whale shark
Where I would have been jumping out of planes at her age, she wants to meet
authors. Hmmm…
I love the fact she has a list. It allows her to do things that are completely
self-centered, which is big for her since she tends to do what is responsible
and
expected, and doesn’t usually pursue selfish interests. It gives her permission
to indulge.
Thank you to Fresh Fiction for having me on the blog today, and thank you to
all
the readers who have been so loving and supportive.

How about you? Do you have a list? To win a copy of book 1 or 2 in the Anderson
Brothers series (ebook), post your top bucket list item in the comments
(2
winners).
Marissa Clarke lives in Texas, where everything is bigger, especially
the
mosquitoes.
When not writing, she wrangles her rowdy pack of three teens, husband, and a
Cairn Terrier named Annabel, who rules the house (and Marissa's heart) with an
iron paw.

Sometimes the biggest risk is playing it safe.
Gen Richards is tired of living down to her family’s expectation of the
helpless
blind girl. Resurrecting her high-school bucket list that begins with “kiss a
total stranger” seems just the thing until she finds herself in a panty-melting
lip lock with her big brother’s best friend.
Chance Anderson thrives on adrenaline, but Genny’s the one risk he’s not
willing
to take. His recklessness a decade ago landed her in the hospital and ejected
him
from her life. He’s bad for her and everyone knows it—especially her big
brother.
Chance reluctantly helps Gen complete her bucket list in order to keep her out
of
trouble. Running through a freezing fountain, playing spin the bottle while
fending off a mad horde of stinging insects, and skinny dipping with homicidal
attack swans don’t hold a candle to the real danger: falling for the one person
he can never have.
