Three years ago Kyle Dawson and Abby Morrow finally gave into their desire. But then circumstances drove them apart. Now, Kyle has been transferred back home where he’s forced to face his demons—and the only woman he ever loved.

Thrown together on a case, they try to resist the undeniable attraction they still feel for one another, but in those rare moment that they let their guards down, the fiery passion they once shared threatens to consume them again…

From Chapter 6 of STOP AT NOTHING

The sun was completely up now, and she could only guess at the hour. In spite of her sleep-addled brain, she was intently aware of the hard planes of Kyle’s stomach where her hand rested, and the comforting weight of his arm curled lightly around her and his body pressed against hers.

At some point while they’d slept, they’d shifted into the tangle of arms and legs they’d so often enjoyed during their summer together. When she awoke to find their bodies had so easily fallen back into the familiar, her initial reaction was to pull away and put some distance between them. But then she felt the warmth of his arms wrapped around her, heard the steady rhythm of his heartbeat in her ear soothe her in a way she sorely needed at the moment, and sank into his embrace. When she felt him draw in a long, deep breath sometime later, she knew he was rousing. That was always the first sign. A sad grin curved her lips, knowing that the contentment she’d been enjoying would soon come to an end.

“Hey there,” he whispered, his deep voice a little raspy with the vestiges of sleep. “What time is it?”

She closed her eyes, her arm around his torso tightening ever so slightly. Time to let you go, she wanted to say. Instead, she raised her head and glanced at the bedside table. “Eight forty-five. We should probably get moving.” With a sigh, she pushed up onto her elbow and started to pull out of his embrace as she announced, “I’ll go make us some coffee.”

But before she could move out of his hold, he grasped her nape and kept her from pulling away, his gaze searching hers intently, looking for…

What?

If it was anything akin to what Abby was looking for as she searched his, then she was in trouble. Serious trouble.

Because the longer she held his gaze, the more charged the air between them became and the harder her heart pounded. Her gaze dropped briefly to his lips, which was a mistake. God, those lips. She’d never forgotten their warmth, how they could be so tender one moment and harsh and demanding the next. And she longed to feel them against hers, just once more…

About Kate SeRine

Kate SeRine (pronounced “serene”) faithfully watched weekend monster movie marathons while growing up, each week hoping that maybe this time the creature du jour would get the girl. But every week she was disappointed. So when she began writing her own stories, Kate vowed that her characters would always have a happily ever after. And, thus, her love for paranormal romance was born.

Kate is a member of Romance Writers of America and of Indiana RWA and has been a finalist in the Fire and Ice Contest (2010), the Finally a Bride Contest (2010), and The Emily (2012). She is represented by Nicole Resciniti with the Seymour Agency.

Kate lives in a smallish, quintessentially Midwestern town with her husband and two sons, who share her love of storytelling. She never tires of creating new worlds to share and is even now working on her next project.

Re: Kate SeRine | My Favorite Scene from STOP AT NOTHING

I do love "second chance" romances. Sometimes, people are not
in a position to appreciate what they have; when they get a
chance to have it again, they will treasure it more and be
more aware of working to keep it.

I am a fan of second chance stories... love seeing the characters get past whatever stood in their way before... overcoming obstacles in the way of their happiness.
(Colleen Conklin 11:59am November 2, 2015)

Most definitely. It gives hope to those of us that had our
first time around go sour.
(Bonnie Davis 5:28pm November 2, 2015)

Absolutely... sometimes the first time around isn't always right and it takes another go...
(Sheryl Pike 9:03pm November 2, 2015)

If the characters were meant to be, then I love reading about second chance romances. Of course, I guess authors won't write second chance romances when one of the characters remain an a-hole.
(Lisa L. 10:02pm November 2, 2015)

Yes :)
(Holly Loch 3:58am November 3, 2015)

Second chance romances are a favorite. I like to know what
drove them apart in the first place.

Yes , I love second chances , most times they are the best . In real life they are even better , no matter what we are doing or what is taking place , sometimes we all need that chance to do over .
(Joan Thrasher 11:00am November 4, 2015)

I think second chances are great.
(Pam Howell 11:14am November 4, 2015)

Yes, I love second chance romances. Actually I am going
thru my second chance romance with my ex-husband. We got
married too young and only stayed married for 4 years and
after 17 years later, we are trying our second chance
romance. We have been back together for 3 months and so far
everything looks on the up side, good! Good luck everyone!
(Renae Kelly 12:58pm November 4, 2015)

Love it.
(Emily Stemp 2:16pm November 4, 2015)

Yes, I do love second chance romance. If it hadn't been for
second chances, I wouldn't have met and fell in love with my
husband! We have been together 10 years and still going
strong!

Yes I love romance novels of any kind

that they missed each other and work harder to make it work
this time.
