One of my favorite romance tropes is enemies to lovers. In BLUE BLOODED,
the third book in my Benediction series, criminal defense attorney Logan
Bradford and television news reporter Rachel Dawson begin as enemies; misconceptions
about each other and their own personal issues prevent them from exploring the
chemistry between them.
Rachel isn’t an easy person to like. On the surface, she’s brash, cavalier, and
narrowly focused on her career. When Logan met her, he didn’t see her as a fiercely
loyal friend and a woman who seeks justice for the innocent. He only saw a reporter
who would do anything for a story.
But he’s not the only one who has misconceptions. Upon her introduction to Logan,
Rachel is immediately attracted to him, but his combative attitude toward her both
surprises and infuriates her. Despite having friends who sing his praises, she
dislikes him immensely.
But when circumstances force them to go on the run together, they put aside their
differences in order to survive. And once they let their guards down, they discover
they’re more alike than they realized.
Some of my favorite “enemies to lovers” stories are:
1. PRIDE
AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen
2. THE MARRIAGE
BARGAIN by Jennifer Probst
3. BEAUTIFUL BASTARD by Christina Lauren
4. BULLY by Penelope Douglas
5. FALLEN TOO
FAR by Abbi Glines
What are some of your favorite “enemies to lovers” books?
A sucker for a happy ending, Shelly Bell writes sensual romance often with a
bit of kink and action-filled erotic thrillers with high-emotional stakes for her
alpha heroes and kick-ass heroines. She began writing upon the insistence of her
husband who dragged her to the store and bought her a laptop. When she’s not working
her day job, taking care of her family, or writing, you’ll find her reading the
latest smutty romance.
Shelly currently writes for Avon Red Impulse and is a member of Romance of America,
Sisters In Crime, and International Thriller Writers.

A woman who refuses to be tied down...
Investigative reporter Rachel Dawson is always looking for her next big story. While
working on a feature about BDSM, she lands a one-night, no-holds-barred pass into
the exclusive sex club, Benediction. Rachel doesn’t have a deviant bone in her body—
or so she thought—until the infuriating, ex-soldier Logan Bradford convinces her to
try rope bondage under his capable hands. But a steamy night turns deadly when
Rachel and Logan witness a gruesome murder.
A Dom who's determined to bind her to him...
Framed for a crime they didn’t commit and hunted by corrupt FBI agents, they flee.
As Rachel and Logan search for evidence to clear their names, the attraction they’ve
been fighting ignites into fiery passion. Love is the last thing Rachel wants, but
night by night, as Logan binds her body, he unravels the knots around her heart. And
when they uncover a shocking political conspiracy, Rachel will stop at nothing to
reveal the truth…and it just might kill her.
