Fresh Fiction welcomes Terri Brisbin, author of the fantastic Novel of the
Stone Circle series!
Jen: Hi, Terri! Thank you for joining us on Fresh Fiction.
Terri: Thanks for having me here!
Jen: RAGING SEA is the second book in the Novel of the
Stone Circle series. I love the mythology behind this series and how
you’ve really put your own spin on the mystery behind the ancient stone circles
across The United Kingdom. When did you first become interested in these legends
and why do you think we’re all so fascinated with them?
Terri: I’ve been fascinated by stone circles for a long time but it grew
when 1) I read OUTLANDER and 2) when I finally visited England and Scotland for
the first time. That led me to the mythology – which is interesting because pretty
much all world mythologies share the same basic ideas and characters. Mythology is
a way to explain everything we don’t know or understand and it’s created when it’s
needed.
Jen: As lovers in the past, Soren and Ran have their own signs and ways of
communicating with each other, which adds an immediate tension to the story. What
is the difference for you in writing a couple that has a shared history rather
than writing a couple who meets for the first time on the page or is there a
difference?
Terri: Well, you pinpointed one aspect of it – they have a physical and
emotional history so some elements are already established. So the challenge is to
make their separation clear and believable and their reunion for an important
reason. When it’s a new-to-each-other couple (as in RISING FIRE),
every bit has to be established and shown to the readers. So, in a way it’s more
difficult to develop believable emotional and sexual tension between characters
who have already been lovers…
Jen: You’ve visited the Orkneys, the setting for RAGING SEA.
What is your favorite memory from your visit and why?
Terri: I loved Orkney – I think my favorite memory is when I spent a day
with Caz of Orkney Archeological tours and we walked across to the Brough of
Birsay at low tide. Knowing that within hours, the path would be under water was
a weird feeling. And I loved walking the Ring of Brodgar almost by myself in a
misting rain….very magical
Jen: The characters can control the elements associated with the gods…If
you could choose, what element would you pick as your own?
Terri: I would love to have power over sky and storm – like Soren. The
thought of being able to fly is soooo appealing. And I love being in the wind – so
controlling them would be grand!
Jen: BLAZING EARTH comes out in April 2016, and I’m looking forward
to reading it! But I’m also desperate to know Aislynn’s story! What do you have in
store for Aislynn and when is she getting her own book?
Terri: Funny you should ask about Aislinn….! I just finished writing BLAZING EARTH
and learned a few things about Aislinn that I did not know! Her book has always
been planned as the finale of the series – book 4 – which has my working title of
SEARING MOON. Coming off of writing the third book (TODAY!), I am so
anxious to begin writing her story…and the Warriors of Destiny will go back to
where it all began…to finish it once and for all time.
Jen: Wow! I can't wait for BLAZING EARTH and see what's in store for the
Warriors of Destiny! Thank you so much for joining us!
In her previous lives, Terri Brisbin has lived in ancient Egypt and
medieval Scotland, but in this one she’s stuck in the wilds of southern New Jersey
with a hubby (wonderful one!) and kids (three adorable and finally grown sons!).
When not living the life of a glamorous romance author or suffering through
deadline-binges-o-writing-mania, she spends some of her time as a dental
hygienist.
Terri’s had more than 34 historical and paranormal romance novels, novellas and
short stories published since 1998 by Berkley, Harlequin, Kensington and soon NAL
– in 25 languages in 20 countries! And there are a bunch more swirling around
inside her brain, just waiting to be written.
