I was having trouble figuring out what to blog about for this release, so I decided to
give Fresh Fiction an exclusive snippet from a deleted scene. I had to cut it because
it was a place where exposing Alexis’s fears would’ve deflated a LOT of the tension in
the book. Alexis built that hard, prickly shell around herself for a reason, and at
the point where this scene had been, she wasn’t ready to let down her guard with
Brett. Well, maybe she secretly was, but she wasn’t ready to let him know that. So I
hope you’ll enjoy this sneak peek at Alexis and Brett.

“I’ve been hurt badly in the past. I’ve had someone I trusted stab me in the back, and
since then, I have a really hard time letting anyone get that close to me.” I focused
my attention on the floor so I wouldn’t have to see the pity or mocking or even that
joyful glee that he’d gotten me to admit one of my secrets. “I mean, it took me months
before I felt comfortable spilling my guts to Morgan and Richard, and they’re my best
friends.”
The silence that followed felt like an eternity, but when he finally said something,
it was as soft and tender as his fingers had been. “I’m not asking you to spill your
guts. I’m just asking you to join me for a meal. And I’m not out to hurt you.”
“But you could.”
“Yeah, I could, if I was an asshole.” He tilted my chin up so I was forced to look at
him again. His face was a perfect presentation of pleading. “Do you think I’m
asshole?”
I shook my head. Everything I’d learned about him over the last three weeks went
against that. Brett was a hot shot football star, a doting big brother, a guy who
quietly worked behind the scenes to make the school a better place. “No, you’re more
along the lines of perfect, in your own little way.”
“So are you, Alexis Wyndham, in your own little way.”

Alexis Wyndham isn’t quite sure what to think about her “friendship” with star
quarterback, Brett Pederson. Sure, he has more intelligence than the entire football
team combined. Not to mention that fact he’s a great kisser. When he asks her to help
him with his college admission essays, she isn’t sure if he’s doing it to spend more
time with her or if he’s just using her for her brains.
But after her nemesis, Summer Hoyt, makes it clear she’s not finished chasing after
Brett, Alexis begins realize how hard she’s fallen for Brett. Now the war is on, and
the head cheerleader will find out why she should never take on a Queen B*.
