I think I’m probably known for pushing boundaries in romance, and I was one of
the first to get an M/M
secondary love story into a NY published book. Over the years I’ve grown fairly
used to having a
polarizing effect on readers. I wanted just to push right through all those
complaints and write
something completely out of bounds, and what better place to do that than in
space?
Science fiction erotic romance is just such an amazingly open place to write in
at the moment. The only
limits are your imagination. The Tribute series originated in my desire to
take an unflinching
look at the darker side of romance, the more specific fantasies where the story
touches on taboos or
edgier situations that challenge what we as women are supposed to find sexy. I
like those edges, and I
like to make my readers think about what they find arousing.
These books aren’t for everyone. They touch on sexual situations that in real
life would not be
acceptable to the majority of women, including myself. But I do truly believe
that all women have the
ability to differentiate between fantasy and reality, and not be ‘harmed’ by
reading whatever they want.
I originally wrote the first of the
Tribute series, SACRIFICE, entirely for my own benefit. I was
contemplating branching out into a new contemporary romance version of myself,
which was much
sweeter, and I just wanted to write one last really out there piece of work. I
happened to mention the
horror erotica story on Twitter to Sarah Lyons from Riptide Publishing, and she
asked to see it. I ended
up writing it as a three-part series of novellas that adds up into one big
book.
My editor described them as “if Anne Rice’s Beauty
series had a baby with THE HUNGER GAMES,” which
kind of works for me. Writing them set in a future world on a forgotten planet
where an undercover
battle for the very survival of the species is underway gives the sexual
dynamics of the plot a lot of
urgency and makes actions that at first appear unforgivable almost
understandable. They aren’t for the
faint of heart, and they aren’t a romance but at their very heart they are all
about love.
Kate Pearce was born into a large family of girls in England, and spent much of
her childhood living very
happily in a dream world. Despite being told that she really needed to ‘get
with the program’, she
graduated from the University College of Wales with an honors degree in
history.
After graduation, real life did intervene and she ended up working in finance
which was not the greatest
career choice for a would-be writer!
A move to the USA finally allowed her to fulfill her dreams and sit down and
write that novel. Along with
being a voracious reader, Kate loves trail riding with her family, ‘western
style’ in the regional parks of
Northern California
Kate writes in several different romance sub-genres under different names. She
is a member of RWA and
is published by Kensington Aphrodisia, Ellora’s Cave and Virgin Black
Lace/Cheek.

To defeat the unimaginable, they must endure the unthinkable.
Few of the people on Planet Mitan know that their future rests on very
precarious foundations. A
terrifying species holds the Mitans in thrall, and only a yearly tribute-part
conscripts, part volunteers-
secures the fragile peace with the sinister Ungrich. Nobody knows exactly what
the alien creatures want
with the Mitans, but the Mitan military and the few survivors of the
underground ordeal have developed
a training program. It's brutal, even horrific, but effective.
Commander Rehz Akran is determined that his trainees, willing or otherwise,
will learn everything
necessary to survive as Tributes. If he can't force them through training, no
one can, and he's prepared
to use every filthy, dirty trick in his arsenal to secure complete obedience .
. . and the survival of his
species.
