I tried interviewing my hero from VOWS OF REVENGE for a blog post a few weeks ago. It
didn’t go well. He’s very close-mouthed. Today I thought I’d try a Q&A with
Melodie, heroine of VOWS OF REVENGE.
Dani: Melodie, how did you come to meet Roman?
Melodie: I didn’t realize it at the time, but my father manipulated me
into it. He forced me to put on a state funeral for my mother, so he could have a
photo opp and win voter sympathy, but he never loved my mother, never loved me. I
only did it so he’d give me her ashes. He even made me invite some of her old
school friends to speak. One of them was Ingrid’s mother. My father was trying to
get information on Roman, and Ingrid is his personal assistant. My father doesn’t
know that I wound up with the contract to plan Ingrid’s wedding or that Roman is
hosting it at his Mediterranean villa. As far as I’m concerned, now that mom is
gone, I’ll never have to speak to my father again.
Dani: You sound bitter.
Melodie:I try not to be. My father and my half-brother are reprehensible
people and they both hurt me in more ways than I can count, but I try not to
dwell on that or let it affect how I live my life. I can’t allow them to make me
bitter. That’s a win for them. I would far rather be a happy person who is kind
and generous, spreading good rather than adding to the bad that they already
bring to the world.
Dani: Wow. Roman doesn’t take that attitude, does he? He was driven by
bitterness after he found out who your father was. He slept with you then ruined
your life!
Melodie: He thought I was spying for my father, but at the time getting
fired and evicted was awfully cruel. I hated him quite a bit. And hated him more
for making me think all men were heartless bastards. The only thing that kept me
going all those years when my father made me miserable was a belief that I would
make better choices with men than my mother did.
Dani: But you didn’t?
Melodie: [glances lovingly at Roman] My husband is a very private person,
but once I got to know him, I knew he was perfect for me.
Dani: Doesn’t it bother him that you’ve been talking about him here?
Roman: I hate it. We’re done.
