Jeannie Moon sits down with Fresh Fiction to talk about THE BOYFRIEND LIST and
what
fans can expect in the future!
Jen: Hi, Jeannie. Thank you for joining us at Fresh Fiction! Nate, in THE BOYFRIEND
LIST, is a polo player. I don’t see polo as often in the sports romance
genre as
often as I see baseball, football, and basketball. You did dream of being a
sportscaster at one time and you’ve always love sports, but what drew you to
writing
about polo?
Jeannie: I’ve written about hockey in two books, and Kevin the hero in
the
third
Forever
Love Story, THE WEDDING SECRET, is a baseball player, so I’m not a
stranger
to the traditional sports romance. But there was something about Nate that
screamed
athlete, but not the typical kind. I gave him a very unusual, but privileged
upbringing on Long Island, where there is an active horse culture. My oldest
daughter has been riding since she was nine years old and one of the things
that has
always bugged her is that there are people who don’t consider riding a sport.
Nate
is the quiet partner in his multibillion dollar business, more reserved than
Jason
or Owen. I wanted to give him an edge, so I made him a rider. Horseback riding
is
dangerous. But our Nate is an expert horseman (having grown up on a horse farm)
who
is drawn to adrenaline pumping activities, like cross-country and Grand Prix
jumping, and polo. His golf game may have suffered, but this billionaire can
stop a
thousand pounds of galloping polo pony on a dime.
Jen: Jenna created a boyfriend list when she was 13; something I know I
did
around that age. :) Did you have your own boyfriend list when you were a girl
and
what were some of the qualities you were looking for? (I know my number one
priority
was that my boyfriend was named Jordan Knight and he’d take me on tour with New
Kids
on the Block.) If you had to make a boyfriend list now, what would you put on
the
list?
Jeannie: I did have a list in one of my diaries. I wish I knew where it
was
because I’d love to compare my husband to the items on the list. I’m sure I
had
things like “He needs to be cute. He needs to be funny. He needs to be sweet.”
And I
do think there was something about him loving animals. If I were to write the
list
today, it would contain some of those same things. My idea guy would be sweet,
well
spoken, have a good sense of humor, be affectionate, have a great work ethic,
love
kids and animals and be a great kisser. ( I have to say, I married a guy like
that…
and he’s cute on top of it all.)
Jen: What is the last book you read that you absolutely loved?
Jeannie: I was the very fortunate recipient of an ARC of Kristan
Higgins’ new
book, her first women’s fiction, entitled, IF YOU ONLY
KNEW. I LOVED IT. I highly recommend this read.
Jen: Can you give us a sneak peek at what you’re working on now? What
can we
look forward to in the future from you?
Jeannie: I’m working on the last book in the Forever
Love
Story series, book 6, which is entitled BECAUSE I LOVE YOU and
it’s
the
story of Tristan Wade, a wealthy British entrepreneur, who has joined the
Reliance
Software team and Leah Bayard, Nate’s very unpredictable sister. For a little
tease, how about the very beginning of the book:
Nothing hindered a quick getaway more than not being able to find
your
underwear.
Tiptoeing around the dimly lit bedroom, Leah Bayard was getting desperate. She
looked all over the floor, under pieces of clothing, under the furniture. It
had
Leah wondering if she even made it to Tristan’s bedroom wearing her thong or if
he’d
pulled it off when they lunged at each other the minute they walked into his
apartment.
No. His hands had worked magic on her when she was shoved against the wall in
his
living room, but she was definitely wearing her thong when he tossed her on his
bed
in a most wonderful caveman move. By then, her now missing thong was the only
thing
she was wearing.
The recklessness with which he pulled it off her didn’t seem to matter at the
time,
but now the temperature had dropped to just above freezing, and even though the
wisp
of black lace was probably the skimpiest thing she owned, it was better than
going
commando. Leah shivered at the thought, and with her hands on her hips, glanced
around the room again. She’d found her bra laying on the coffee table, her
dress in
a puddle on the floor, and her shoes had dropped off when he’d thrown her over
his
shoulder…but where the hell was her thong?
“Looking for this, love?”
This is a fun story. Leah and Tristan were a lot of fun to write because
neither of
them thought they were cut out for love. Hmmpf. Don’t they all?
Jen: Jeannie, thank you so much for joining us! I can't wait to read
what
comes after that line. :) Love a British accent.

Jenna Albanese planned it all out at thirteen when she listed the qualities she
wanted in her perfect man. Years later, she thought she’d found him. When all
she
got was a broken heart, Jenna tucked away the boyfriend list—and her belief in
happy
ever after.
Nate Bayard has a life most people only dream of—he’s a handsome high-caliber
polo
player and partner in a multibillion dollar business. But as intelligent and
confident as he is on the field and in the boardroom, he’s hopeless with women—
until
he meets the sweet and funny Jenna. She’s just about perfect, and Nate’s
determined
to make her his. There’s just one little problem. Jenna’s unwelcome past is
about to
make a comeback.
For Jenna, overcoming her mistrust in men—particularly rich ones—isn’t going to
be
easy. Then she comes across that old boyfriend list and realizes that maybe
it’s
time for another look and a few changes to bring a brand new beat to her
romantic
heart.

Love this series. Great interview! I too wish ninjas a list of husband qualities
back in my teenage years. I am sure my husband would meet most of
them. Been married for 31 years.

Now that I've read your excerpt, I can't stop there!! I have to read the rest of your book!! I think that was the whole idea of putting it in your interview!! ha It's fine with me, though!! What's another book on my list of Romances, considering I'm a hopeless Romantic anyway!! Your book will be a breath of fresh air considering some of the books I've been reading of late, and I should be getting to it very soon!! Thank you for coming here and letting us know about it. I can already tell you'll have a big following with this one!!
