April's Affections and Intrigues: Love and Mystery Bloom

New and Now
What’s Hot in New Adult and Contemporary Romance

Wait, there's a second one?

A few days ago, I took one of my frequent trips to a local bookstore. While I was happily browsing, I found a book I read several years ago, one that I greatly enjoyed. I was surprised to find two other books next to it that were continuations of the first book that I thought was a standalone. I had somehow missed the sequels in the midst of all the other series I read. I’m almost ashamed to admit this isn’t the first case of that happening to me.

I generally consider myself very up to date with the book world, but sometimes when I read outside my genre or even just a series that doesn’t get much publicity, any further books in a series go completely over my head. I read roughly 200-250 books a year, and many of those fall somewhere in a series, so it’s all too easy to miss a few. In an effort to help this unintentional overlook for others, here are three recent releases that continue series you may have read last year, or even a few months ago, just waiting to be picked up.

FEARLESS by Shae Ross

FEARLESS
FEARLESS

About: Devi Dalton won't let anyone hold her back. With the help of her friends, she's taken control of her future and traded her messed-up family life for a new job in Manhattan. Her only obstacle? Ben Winslow, the sexy friend she's desperately trying to resist. If she's going to succeed, she can't afford to be distracted, no matter how hot the chemistry burns between them.

Cage fighter Ben spent six months trying to convince Devi to take a chance on a relationship. Now that they've reunited in New York, he's not letting her push him away again. They're more than friends-always have been-and he'll do whatever it takes to prove it to her. First, he has a few demons of his own to slay...one of which could ruin his chances with her for forever.

But every fighter has a weakness. Ben's is Devi. And this time, she'll need more than just her favorite "Fearless Red" lipstick to protect her heart if she lets him in...

HEART BREAKER by Harper Kincaid

HEART BREAKER
HEART BREAKER

About: Former man-eater Samantha Lockhart has been an actress long enough to be able to spot a smooth-talking player a mile away. Dark-haired, bourbon-eyed, a wicked smile…Kyle Masterson is one of the best.

From his bad-boy motorcycle boots to his good-ole-boy Southern drawl, everything about Kyle screams sex appeal. But after a tragedy hits close to home, Sam tries to convince herself she’s done with players on and off the stage.

Kyle, a V-twin-riding divorce attorney, has witnessed enough horror stories of love gone wrong to know that while women are welcome in his bed, they’re definitely not in his future. But once the petite, mercurial redhead catches his eye, he can’t think of anything—or anyone—else.

Sam’s trust doesn’t come easy, but the more time they spend together, the deeper they both fall. Yet just as they’re breaking through each other’s barriers, someone who doesn’t like being upstaged makes a deadly play of his own. And if Sam refuses, she may not be able to breathe a word to anyone…ever.

Warning: Contains a small-town thespian who isn’t easily fooled and a lawyer with a weakness for V-twin engines and sassy redheads.

INSIDE OUT

About: Talia Stolfi is deeply in love with the brooding Aussie surfer who stole her heart-but their infrequent letters only get her so far. While she fulfills her dream of being in the Peace Corps, a dangerous condition jeopardizes her life . . . and threatens to shatter her heart.

After nearly losing Talia forever, Bran Lockhart sailed to the stormy seas at the ends of the earth. Deep down, he knows that all roads worth traveling lead back to the beautiful California girl with the sunny smile. There's no denying that he belongs with her, but to have her by his side means Bran must dare to do something he's never done before: hope.

Everything they've fought for has come down to this moment. Can Talia and Bran discover the courage to claim their future and learn that sometimes, in order to earn true love, you need to venture off the map?

Re: Wait, there's a second one?

Every time I go into my neighborhood book store, there are so many books, both hot off the press, and fairly new off the press to choose from, that it makes my head spin!! Then some of the Titles jump out at me, and I start remembering my TBR list from my head, and a lot of the Titles sound familiar, because they were the books that I was supposed to read, but forgot about, because others came out, and sort of nudged them to the back burner for a while. The books you told us about sound interesting, too, and I'll have to take a closer look at them the next time I'm out.
