Ande Flanagan | Teen Day at Penned Con

~ by Ande Flanagan, Fresh Fiction Author Advocate

I’m at my first Penned Con in St. Louis, Missouri, and I had a blast experiencing their first Teen Day.

Penned Con is just two years old, and I’m so impressed by the quality of this event. Penned Con is indie-author centric, and it does a great job of hitting all the necessary points that a self-published author needs, while being tons of fun.

Penned Con started Teen Day with what seemed like a typical introduction, but then author AnnaLisa Grant took the stage. AnnaLisa’s enthusiasm for being a writer leaked into the ice breakers and made the hour buzz by. Who knew a room full of authors would throw their hands up to share their worst review?

After ice breakers, there were four panels with a lunch of pizza in between (because what else would you feed teens and authors?). Each panel started with games pertaining to the topic. For example, the teen who figured out the writing process the fastest in the first panel won a snazzy Mardi Gras tiara to match the theme for this year’s masquerade ball. Even the boys were strutting in those tiaras.

The highlight of Teen Day, by far, was the author signing. As we walked into the signing, we were handed a scavenger hunt! For an introvert like me, the hunt for goodies made it so easy for me to approach all the authors in the room and talk to some amazing people. Talk about an ice breaker. We are totally stealing the idea for Readers & ‘ritas.

I can’t wait to see what the next two days are like!
