I’m a sucker for a thinking man, especially when it comes to writing
characters. Pretty is nice, but give me a guy with deep, intelligent thoughts
any day. Why? These guys tend to be intense and for some reason, I really love
intense characters. Maybe it’s a bit more fun when I’m in his head and not
left guessing, like the heroine, but I find they also tend to be pretty
straightforward.
Heroine in danger? Save her.
Villain in the house? Find and destroy it.
Something needs to be done. Get up and do it.
How do you not love someone who cuts through all the red tape and just takes
care of business?
Not always the best communicators, I admit—which is why I prefer to write
them. But under all that coolly calculated thinking, I also find that they
feel intensely. Their loyalty is unwavering. Their desire is explosive—hey, a
guy that contained is gonna go off SOMEwhere, right?—and the best part, when
they love, it’s no holds barred.
This isn’t to say they are easy to live with, by any means. Any woman who
takes one on has to be strong willed and determined not to get steam-rolled.
Which makes her fun to write too, lol, but that’s a totally different post.
My current hero, Undersheriff Rick Trelane, is one such silent—and deadly—guy.
Former Marine turned small town sheriff, he’s got intense down to a science.
He’s also a hunter, studying a killer and trying to unravel a disturbing
string of murders and clues—all of which point to his childhood best friend,
Whitney. On the inside, he’s locked down, scarred and determined not to
inflict himself on others. On the outside, well, some folks find him
forbidding and dangerous and probably not going to welcome them to a fun
barbecue at his house. Basically, he needs a friend. The best kind of friend.
And right now, that best kind of friend needs him, too. He’s just got to find
the words, find the way, to keep them both alive.
Maybe one day I’ll write a chatty hero again. (They do have their moments of
fun) But right now, I’m all about those heroes who resonate with emotion and
strength. What about you? What kind of hero draws you in and makes you want to
purr?
Dee Tenorio has a few reality issues. After much therapy for the problem--if
one can call being awakened in the night by visions of hot able-bodied men a
problem--she has proved incurable. It turns out she enjoys tormenting herself
by writing sizzling, steamy romances of various genres spanning paranormal
mystery dramas, contemporaries and romantic comedies. Preferably starring the
sexy, somewhat grumpy heroes described above and smart-mouthed heroines who
have much better hair than she does. The best part is, no more therapy bills!
Well, not for Dee, anyway. Her husband and kids, on the other hand...

Some secrets are worth dying for…
Undersheriff and former Marine Rick Trelane had one constant his entire life—
his friendship with Whitney Peterson. Through thick and thin, she has never
faltered. Never blamed. But when her former lover turns up dead, Rick must
look past the walls he’s built to the woman he thought he knew inside and out…
and discover he was wrong.
Whitney has secrets, deadly ones. The deeper he digs, the more he sees her as
a woman he desires. And suspects. But as bodies start turning up, so does the
evidence against her. Now the air is thick with secrets and shadows and giving
into the longing could turn both their worlds upside down. Because this killer
is just getting started…

I've never really analyzed the type of hero that I like to read. Of course, they shouldn't be abusive, but on the whole, they should be smart, sharp, tender when they need to be, and funny for starters. If a character is too complicated, it's actually a bit of a turn-off. Your latest character reminds me of my Husband in so many ways, and yes - it makes it an adventure to live with him. On the other hand, people say that I'm a very "cerebral" person, so I suppose that's one of the things that make us so compatable. We have a lot of deep discussions on different topics, and although we don't always agree, it does get quite animated!! lol I'm looking forward to reading your book, since your story line grabbed me right away!! Congratulations on your book, and I'm sure it's going to be a big hit!!

Peggy, I'm going to want to meet your hubby, lol! I'm fairly cerebral myself--I think, lol. I do love having long, deep conversations about movies and philosophy...and cooking (or rather my absolute lack of cooking skills, lol). I hope you enjoy reading Rick and the rest of Wanted!

Oh sweet lord, a man with a sexy voice can spread me on bread... Esp if he speaks in an accent! Whenever my husband speaks French, I lose the ability to breathe. (Even though he once told me it was the translation for: Do Not Immerse In Water. The jerk. The sexy, sexy jerk, lol)

Since June 21st PBS Masterpiece Theater convinced me that 1792 Ross Poldark aka Aidan Turner is my type of hero. Ross Poldark, upper class gentleman works along lower class miners to save his penniless estate. He makes wrongs right by standing up for fairness and honesty.
Your book cover resembles Aidan Turner's abs...both make me purrrrrrr.
