I can't read enough LGBT romances in science fiction/fantasy. The best books I've found don't focus on
gay issues as much as they pinpoint the basic need to be understood and accepted by the person they
love. What must it feel like when you want someone so badly you can't think or even breathe? How can
you
ignore what your eyes see but your heart believes? Breaking through outside interference to claim the
one person who makes you whole... wow. Those struggles never get old, so here are three M/M SFF
romances that look promising.
Space opera lends itself to heart-pounding romance plots, but
romance isn't the focus here. The affect of a distant war on the people fighting it sounds compelling. I
like suspense, and this one sounds like betrayal will play a big part. I'll be jumping into this one as soon
as possible.
About: Lieutenant
Commander Kyle West is one of Earth Fleet’s greatest fighter pilots. Every day, he leads his squadron
into battle over Earth’s cities in a seemingly endless war against a vicious alien race, defending his home
and his loved ones.
Millions of miles away, the Fleet’s Elite Squadron attacks from another angle, engaging the enemy on its
home turf. Casualties are high, and the Squadron needs more of the Fleet’s very best. But joining the
Elite is a death sentence— a surety Kyle isn’t willing to face. Until a devastating attack wipes out the
family he refused to leave.
Commander Andrei Dezhnyov, an Elite Squadron gunner, isn’t sure what to make of the cocky new
American pilot. Kyle is equally uncertain about the snarly Russian, but as they warm up to each other,
their tentative alliance becomes a deep bond—one that endangers them both when a daring and
disobedient rescue reveals secrets that call into question everything they’ve ever believed about their
enemy. Secrets that their superiors would kill to protect.
A menage that includes a vampire-like entity? Yep, my kind of
supernatural fantasy with diversity at its core. I've watched this series from afar, but no longer. It's
tough
to find a new twist in the genre, but this series is too promising to pass up.
About: Caleb has spent
the last six months adjusting to life possessed by the vampire spirit Gray. Unfortunately, after the events
of Fort Sumter, the other agents of SPECTR view him more as a ticking time bomb than a co-worker.
The one bright spot is Caleb and Gray’s boyfriend, federal exorcist John Starkweather. But John has
problems of his own. A supernatural killer is on the loose in Charleston, stealing the hearts of its victims
to extend its own unnatural life.
With the help of a rookie agent, John, Caleb, and Gray must find the killer before it strikes again…or
before they become the demon’s next victims.
Another soft spot in scifi military romance comes from genetically
altered people forced to live with what was done to them. Give me a broken super soldier, and I'll buy
you a cookie! I love stories where love must conquer the distance one lover puts on another to keep
them safe or away from being hurt. Oh, my heart's already clenching.
Felix Ingesson has returned to his duties as the Chaos's engineer with Zander Anatolius, his ex-
boyfriend-turned-broken-super-soldier, at his side. Hope means something again. But there's nothing
Felix can do to battle the alien poison flowing through Zander's veins, or his imminent mental decline.
With each passing day, the side effects of Zander’s experimental training are becoming more difficult to
ignore.
When the ruthless Agrius Cartel seeks their revenge—including an ambush and an attempt to kidnap the
Chaos’s crew—Zander is pushed over the edge. He can no longer hide his symptoms, nor does he want
to. But hurting Felix when he’s not in control of himself is Zander’s worst nightmare—when it nearly
happens, he agrees to seek help. Even if that means trusting the unknown.
As Zander places his life in alien hands, Felix appoints himself his lover’s keeper. And though he tries to
be strong, he can’t ignore the fact that he might lose Zander… forever this time.
