Dead Dog Like Me, July 2015

When you read my books, you’ll quickly discover that I’m an inspirational novelist. I don’t hide the fact nor am I ashamed of it. God is central to my themes because He’s central to my life. I could no more take God out of my writing than my dog Teddy could take chasing squirrels out of his DNA.

Having said that, my goal when writing is not to preach to my readers, but to make them feel. A good book makes reader’s experience a wide range of emotions from anger and grief, to exhilaration and joy. It captivates, entertains, and moves. When I read THE NOTEBOOK by Nicholas Sparks, I was so angry and broken that I threw the book across the room. But then, in tears, I went and hugged my wife tighter than I had in a while. In Sue Monk Kidd’s THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES when May drowned herself in the river, I was completely undone. I was right there walking alongside August and June, feeling their grief and pain as they carried May’s lifeless body to the bank. In Grisham’s THE TESTAMENT, I cried with joy when Nate, the big- time, materialistic, attorney from D.C. encountered the living Christ in a 3rd world missionary church in the Amazon. And I held on for the roller-coaster like ride while reading Ted Dekker’s THUNDER OF HEAVEN.

All those books greatly influenced my writing style. My new release DEAD DOG LIKE ME incorporates all those elements along with offering one more . . . hope. And in a world that’s bombarded with so much tragedy and negative news, we desperately need hope on so many levels. If I can move my readers emotionally and give them a dose of hope while at the same time entertaining them, then I feel I’ve done my job. After writing the first chapter of DEAD DOG LIKE ME I gave it to one of my toughest critical readers that also happens to be a brilliant, skeptical, agnostic, college student. Cracking this guy would take an act of God, literally. He returned the chapter and with wetness in his eyes and simply said, “How did you know?” Bingo! I knew I was on to something!

About DEAD DOG LIKE ME

Megachurch pastor Nick Gregory's life is falling apart. His wife is filing for divorce. His congregation is questioning his leadership. His faith is nearly nonexistent. It goes down hill from there. When he regains consciousness after a horrific car crash, Nick realizes he is no longer in his hometown or even in the twenty-first century.

Transported back in time to 800 B.C. and into the body of King Saul's grandson Mephibosheth, Nick must quickly adapt to a completely different way of living. Can the experience of living as a another broken man, desperate for God s healing, bring healing to Nick himself if he can ever get back home?

A novel of adventure, redemption, and outrageous grace, Dead Dog Like Me takes you back in time to know more deeply a God who never changes, a God who lavishes you with His love.

The Shack by William P. Young. I bought the book on CDs and
it was amazing to listen to. At the time, I had and hour's
commute and I loved listening to it. It really touched me
on a spiritual level, filling me with hope and at a time
when I really needed it.

Some amazing books written by Robert Chomany. He has five books
so far and they are named BawB's Raven Feathers which it
reflects on life

John Grisham because the good guy wins in the end!

So many but not one stands out as the most inspirational. Hopefully every author has something of value to pass on to their readers.
