Rosanne Bittner | The Sweeping Family Saga of The Outlaw Hearts Trilogy
June 17, 2015
Dear Readers – I want to tell you about a trilogy I am writing that will
open your hearts to the beauty
of long-lasting true love and to the joy of reading the bigger, family saga
type story. My Outlaw
Hearts trilogy
begins with OUTLAW HEARTS (June
2015) followed by DO NOT FORSAKE
ME (July 2015) and will end with LOVE’S SWEET REVENGE in
September 2016. I feel there are
not nearly enough books like mine on the market today, stories that cover 10
to 40 years and that
encompass the settling of a Nation, filled with real American history and
following one family that
lives through the astounding growth of the greatest nation on earth.
The
Outlaw Hearts
trilogy follows a man from the days of pure lawlessness into the era of a
more settled West that
embraces law and order. It is written in my favorite genre of a sweeping
family saga that follows one
couple from their younger years through children and even grandchildren, and
how the settling of the
American West and its phenomenally rapid growth affects the lives of people
who lived through it all.
Above all, the stories are a family saga filled with tremendously powerful
love, both between the hero
and heroine but also the love of a father for his son and a mother for her
husband and children – and
how that love is balanced and fortified by life’s trials and challenges.
Jake Harkner starts out as a ruthless wanted man with a very tragic past
that has molded him into a man
who barely knows the meaning of love. He meets a woman through chance of
fate (she shoots him!) who
ends up being the person who changes his life (and his heart) and teaches
Jake about true love and
teaches him to love himself and to forgive himself for the one sin that
haunts him constantly – the
fact that he killed his own father. It was for good reason and he could
hardly help it at the time,
but it is still an ugly memory he must deal with. Jake’s childhood was
something most children would
never even live through, and as a very young boy he witnessed his father
murder his mother and little
brother.
In OUTLAW HEARTS Jake and Randy
are constantly on the run, but love holds them together through some Wild
West action and adventure and
the dangers of a wanted man who is hunted not just by the law but by the
very men he used to ride with.
I wrote the book 22 years ago and always wanted to write a sequel. When
Sourcebooks asked for one and
offered to reissue OUTLAW
HEARTS, I was thrilled! DO NOT
FORSAKE ME poured right out of me – 600 manuscript pages – in about 4
months! I finished before I
even received my contract! For all these years I have been in love with
Jake Harkner and wanted to
continue his story of love, forgiveness and redemption. By the time I
finished DO NOT
FORSAKE ME I knew a trilogy
was in the making. I couldn’t leave these beloved characters because I’d
been “living” with them for 26
years (story-wise). I wanted to follow them to Colorado, where they are
headed at the end of Book #2.
I am now about 250 pages into LOVE’S SWEET REVENGE, another heart-
wrenching, realistic western
that teaches about love, forgiveness, redemption, and what it’s like to live
through the dramatic
changes going on around your characters.
I promise all of you that OUTLAW HEARTS and DO NOT
FORSAKE ME will take you on
a journey you will not soon forget, and one that will leave you totally in
love with Jake Harkner and
anxious to read LOVE’S SWEET REVENGE! For more on these books visit

I can't think of just one series - but I do love a series of books where I can get to know and grow with the characters. I enjoy anything to do with history. I love history in a book that tells a story. I love series because you get to follow the characters. Currently rereading Emily March's Eternity Springs series but if I have to pick my favorite family series, there is a tie. I like equally Debra Clopton's Mule Hollow series and the series that branches off and Janet Tronstad's series, Dry Creek. Both deal with small towns which is like having a large extended family.
