SARAH: Dawn, you and Cade met under unusual circumstances. Was it love at first sight? Did you know even then he was the one for you?

Dawn: [Dawn grins]. It was definitely lust at first sight. I was working with my bestie, Arianne, at Banks Bar when Jagger, the president of the Sinner’s Tribe MC walked in with his top brass around him. Jagger was panting after Arianne in a big way, and although he’s definitely a looker, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the tall, blond, hunk of manliness behind him. The dude seriously looked like Thor.

Cade: [puffs out chest] That’s me.

Dawn: She knows it’s you. I’m just setting the scene.

Cade: [scowls] Just wanted to make sure you weren’t talkin’ about T-Rex, or one of the other blond brothers, or even Shaggy, although Shaggy’s grey, but I bet if he ever washed his hair—

Dawn: Cade, honey?

Cade: Babe?

Dawn: It’s my turn. You get a turn later.

Cade: “s’good, babe. You keep talkin’. Tell her about the fight in the bar when the Black Jacks MC came looking for Arianne, and about how you two escaped in your piece of shit vehicle, and how me’n Jagger caught up with you in about five minutes ‘cause you were goin’ so slow. And then tell her how you threatened us with pepper spray, and how I thought you were the hottest, sweetest, little spitfire I’d ever seen. And don’t forget the part about when the Black Jacks were comin’ and I promised to keep you safe, and you jumped on the back of my bike without hesitatin’. But don’t tell them what happened when I took you back to the clubhouse ‘cause sex stuff is just between you and me.

Dawn: [gives a tight smile] Uh, thanks for that recap on MY turn, but you forgot to mention that you were checking me out from the minute you walked into the bar.

Cade: I wasn’t checking you out. I was wondering whether you were gonna freeze to death in that tiny, black skirt that hugged every curve of your beautiful body, and whether the buttons on that flimsy white shirt were gonna pop when you took in a breath so I good get a good look at your fucking gorgeous tits.

Dawn: Like I said, checking me out.

Cade: Like I said, wondering about the outfit and what was underneath

Dawn: We had one night together and then we met again at a pool hall. That time he was checking out my ass.

Cade: My girl’s got the fucking sweetest ass...

Dawn: Then we had another night together [blushes].

Cade: Fucking best night of my life. Used up a whole box of condoms. Then she dumped me. [sulks]

SARAH: That’s hard to imagine. I mean, you’re so…[blushes]

Cade: I know. No one ever dumped me before. It was a new experience. I was used to women begging to get into my bed, fighting over me, more women than I could count—sweet butts, house mamas, hangers on, civilians, even some old ladies…

Dawn: [dryly] I think she gets the picture.

Cade: But all I could think about was Dawn. I tried to forget her. Blondes, redheads, brunettes, even a bald chick—I slept with them all in the year we were apart, so many I couldn’t keep count, but I couldn’t get Dawn outta my head—

Dawn: [mutters] And now Sarah knows you’re a manwhore. Nice.

SARAH: That’s okay. I knew that already.

Cade: And then we met again outside the school when I was saving her ass from her fucking ex, Mad Dog. That was the day I decided she was mine and nothing was going to stand in my way of getting her back.

SARAH: How about you Dawn. Was that the moment for you, too?

Dawn: No. Although just being near him again made my knees weak. But I was in a bad situation with Mad Dog and I didn’t want anything to do with bikers ever again.

Cade: [stretches and throws his arm over her seat]: I wore her down though. She couldn’t resist me. I just needed to deal with all the dudes who were panting after her first.

Dawn: There weren’t that many.

Cade: One dude wantin’ my woman is too many. Three is a fucking catastrophe. Good thing I got a big ass gun.

Dawn: [shakes her head and sighs] He swears a lot, although he does try not to do it around our twins. “Maia’s not having a fucking playdate with that boy down the street. I know what boys of seven are like,” he says. Or “You aren’t fucking going out in that barely fucking there piece of spandex,” he says to me when I’m about to go to yoga class. “Get your ass to bed,” he says, as if I’m gonna run to do his bidding.

Cade: [curls his fingers around Dawn’s neck, leaning close]. Babe, you like to do my bidding. And far as I can recall, your ass hit the bed in record time.

Dawn: [blushes] Well I hadn’t seen you in twelve hours, and then you stalk into our new house, looking bad-ass breathtaking in your leathers. And you’ve got that “don’t mess with me” look you get after you spend the day cruising around with the Sinners on your Harleys, hunting for Black Jacks. What’s a hot-blooded girl supposed to do after she’s put the kids to bed?

Cade: Me [grins].

Dawn: I believe that happened. More than once. You never seem to run out of ideas. Sometimes your imagination scares me. Cade: Christ, the things I want to do with you. I just went to the hardware store…you should see what I bought. I’m gonna fucking love you hard tonight.

Dawn: [rolls her eyes] So romantic…and you’ve got a filthy mouth.

Cade: You love my mouth, babe. Last night after you got your ass in bed, you said—

Dawn: Cade!

Cade: You loved—

Dawn: Cade!

Cade: Me.

Dawn: Oh. Yeah. I do have a fondness for rough, gritty, breathtakingly handsome alpha male bikers with filthy mouths.

Cade: [presses kiss to her forehead]. She loves me. Make sure you write that down so everyone knows and I don’t gotta go shootin’ dudes who want in my woman’s pants.

Dawn: You might have mentioned you loved me too.

Cade: Didn’t think you heard me.

Dawn: [softly] I hear you every time you say it and I’ll never get tired of hearing it.

Cade: Maybe we should get it tattooed on your ass...
