Have you ever made a snap judgment that seemed obvious at the time, but later turned out to be completely wrong?

Maybe the child standing in the kitchen with a guilty look and chocolate smeared all over his face didn’t really eat the entire plate of brownies. Or the partially overheard conversation your best friend was having wasn’t about you after all. Or you were convinced your husband had completely forgotten your birthday . . . until he handed you the plane tickets for a surprise romantic getaway for two.

As a trial lawyer, I learned early on what an important part of the team an efficient legal assistant could be. But even with the best systems in place, papers still seemed to pile up, and documents took forever to get filed in my busy office. Until I hired a temporary assistant who I immediately decided was the most organized and efficient person I’d ever met. Her desk was always clear of any clutter, and there were no stacks of documents waiting to find their way into the files. And she was out the door by 5:00 every day, her work area as pristine as it had been in the morning.

Everything was fabulous . . . until she took a day off and I discovered that instead of doing the filing, she’d been shoving all the stacks of papers into the overhead supply cabinet. They literally fell out on me when I reached up and opened the cabinet door. Instead of the best assistant I’d ever worked with, she was absolutely the worst!

In my debut book, THE MILLIONAIRE’S UNEXPECTED PROPOSAL, Miami trial lawyer Sam Flanagan makes a snap decision – but his is purely personal. Sam is stunned when a woman he had a fling with in Las Vegas five years ago shows up and demands that he marry her to protect the son he never knew he had. When he learns that she married an invalid billionaire just weeks after leaving his bed – and put that man’s name on her son’s birth certificate - the conclusion seems obvious. Camilla is a gold-digger, and the sooner Sam can get sole custody of his son, the better. It takes a long time, and some real heartache, before Sam realizes how completely wrong he’s been about Camilla.

Leave a comment below telling us about a snap judgment you made that turned out to be wrong, and you’ll be entered in the drawing to win this sterling silver necklace with interlocking hearts – exactly like the one Sam bought for Camilla, and she thought she’d lost in Vegas . . . About THE MILLIONAIRE’S UNEXPECTED PROPOSAL

His marriage of inconvenience…

Camilla Winthrop is about to do something she's never done in her life—she's about to ask a man to marry her. Not just any man. She hasn't seen Sam Flanagan in almost five years, after he coldly walked away from a passionate and intense two-week affair. Now Camilla is widowed and desperate…and marrying Sam is the only way she can protect their son.

The son he never knew about.

A hugely successful attorney in Miami, Sam certainly never expected to see the stunning Camilla come through his door again. Nor can he ignore the desire heating his blood. But after she tells him her situation, Sam is furious. He'll marry her, but under his terms. And he'll take everything, including Camilla in his bed…unless she can find a way to thaw the millionaire's icy heart once more.

Re: Jane Peden | Snap Judgments and Heartaches

i made a snap judgement when i thought my sister got married and i did not
really like the guy, but it turns out he is actually a good guy and really cares for
my sis. Don't judge a book by its cover!
(Marygrace Monteleone 12:46pm April 1, 2015)

Oh boy I have made a ton... I am working on it...
(Seanna Yeager 9:52am April 1, 2015)

I made a snap judgement about a person years ago. Was I
wrong?? Possibly. But I never gave them a chance to prove
themselves, and that's the part that will haunt me. Your book
sounds very interesting, and I'll be looking forward to
reading it. Congratulations!!
(Peggy Roberson 10:32am April 1, 2015)

I suppose, like a number of people, I've made a snap
judgement of people who have become friends' significant
others. Good thing I keep my mouth shut, since they've
worked out OK.
(Deb Philippon 11:53am April 1, 2015)

I really have had a issue with making snap judgement when I
was younger, now that I am older I keep them to myself and
wait and see what happens. I will only say what I think
when I am asked.
(Nancy Wolfe 12:28pm April 1, 2015)

I'm afraid I've made one or two snap judgements in my life and some I've regretted. I'm learning to stop and think things through though.
(Bonnie Capuano 12:33pm April 1, 2015)

I may have had a few moments of snap judgments... mostly when it came to kids in school...
(Colleen Conklin 12:47pm April 1, 2015)

I made a snap decision of accusing my daughter or not doing
her chores, when in fact she did.
(Kim Matlock 1:33pm April 1, 2015)

I heart this
(Catherine Myers 2:42pm April 1, 2015)

I have made snap judgement a time or two. Some I have lived
to regret others not so much. Marrying a divorced man after
dating 3 days is one I have come to regret. My mother told
me once a cheater always a cheater. Being young I said no
way. Boy was she right! After 34 years married he walked
out ...things have come to light that I question if he was
ever faithful to me...
(Kimberley Coover 6:07pm April 1, 2015)

There's this person who I made a snap judgment about and to this day, that person still gives me reasons why I steer clear of them as much as possible.
(Robyn Konopka 8:02pm April 1, 2015)

When I was younger I made way too many snap judgments. With age came the wisdom to listen carefully to what is being said. And what I need to do about it.
(Ann Chapatte 8:48pm April 1, 2015)

I still as an adult make too many snap judgements. Working on it
constantly.
(Mary Ann Hislop 9:07pm April 1, 2015)

Count to ten if you must to keep your mouth shut and please don't judge!
(Sally Lincoln 9:12pm April 1, 2015)

I have been married to a person I fell in love in high
school with and yes we are still married come 42 yrs right
before Christmas. One just needs to keep working with and
be ready for the many ups and downs life gives us.
(Sherrie Wood 9:38pm April 1, 2015)

I've made snap judgments in the past
but they turned out OK in the end!
(Beverly Ross 10:04pm April 1, 2015)

I love all the comments about snap judgments! Sounds like some of them
worked out better than others :)
(Jane Peden 11:41pm April 1, 2015)

YES, when I was younger I made snap judgements but now with
older age I have more wisdom and I try not to Judge a Book
by its cover or assume anything in my life. I am leaving the
Judging to GOD these days. Congrats on your new book: THE
MILLIONAIRE'S UNEXPECTED PROPOSAL. I would love to win your
fantastic book and beautiful heart necklace too. Thank You
very much. Cecilia Dunbar Hernandez CECE
(Cecilia Dunbar Hernandez 11:42pm April 1, 2015)

Snap judgement, that the quiet man at work in the next
department was a fuddy-duddy. He is an absolute kick even
after years of marriage together.
(G. Bisbjerg 12:53pm April 2, 2015)

All the time in my younger days. A touch wiser now.
(Mary Preston 5:41am April 2, 2015)

Im sure i have made some, but i have blocked them out.
(Rachel Collings 7:09pm April 2, 2015)

Look forward to reading it!
(Judy van Ryn 11:32pm April 2, 2015)

I made a snap judgment to marry my husband 30 years ago, best one I ever made!
(Rhonda Rogers 7:50am April 3, 2015)

(Joan Thrasher 10:22am April 3, 2015)

I make snap judgements about people I meet and most of the time I'm right. I love it when I'm wrong. Thank you for the books you entertain us with and the giveaways you have !
(Susan King 10:28am April 3, 2015)

WE all make snap judgments that don't work out but I can't think of one specific one.
(Pam Howell 10:30am April 3, 2015)

I met a girl that I thought was a huge airhead. It turned out to be a complete act & she's very intelligent. We're now very good friends. I'm so glad I was wrong about her!
(Kristine Murphy 10:41am April 3, 2015)

i am sure i have made a lot of snap judgements over my 67 years, but the decisions i made after long and careful thought are the one that caused me the most grief.
(Sue Hieber 3:25pm April 3, 2015)

I love this necklace and the book sounds great. I think
everybody makes snap judgements.
(Denise Austin 5:08pm April 3, 2015)

I have made more than one.
Appreciate the giveaway.
(Leona Olson 7:40pm April 3, 2015)

I don't know anyone that has not made a snap judgement at one
time or another, lets hope they only did it once. Thank you
for this giveaway
(Sharon Sommer 10:07pm April 3, 2015)

like most people i have open my mouth when i should have
kept it shut, pronouncing some of the world dumbest "come
back to haunt" me moments know to man. LOL! for
instance the time i thought that my mom was trying to set
up my sister with this guy. i told her he was way to old
and not good enough for her anyway. of course Mom said
she had planned to introduce him to me and that i should
turn around because he was standing right behind me. "SO
EMBARRASSING!" this is the typical thing that happens to
me. i call it foot and mouth disease(open mouth and
insert foot). LOL!
thank you for the contest.

I make one everyday because we as humans are so judgmental then get proven wrong for them
(Lisa L. 1:14pm April 9, 2015)

My opinion on my nieces boyfriend thought he was
nice. I was so wrong
