To the Fresh Fiction virtual Holiday Potluck, I would bring a fruit basket that
contains apples, strawberries, peaches, pears, plums and bananas. I am currently
writing the Superstition Mysteries, which premiered in October with LOST UNDER A
LADDER. Researching superstitions has become great fun, and to some extent I
incorporate them into my own life. Am I superstitious? Maybe more than I used to be!
Here are some of the superstitions involved with those particular fruits:
Apples: An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Strawberries: Strawberries represent excellence.
Peaches: Eating a peach can not only induce love; it provides
wisdom to the eater.
Pears: Pears mean affection.
Plums: Eating a plum can either inspire or maintain love, as
appropriate.
Bananas: If you make a wish as you cut one open near where the
stalk used to be, your wish will come true if a Y-mark appears.
Oh, and by the way--if I didn't bring fruit, I would bring some freshly baked
dog treats. Dogs are family, too. And next year I have another new mystery
series beginning: The Barkery and Biscuits Mysteries. The first one,
BITE THE BISCUIT, will be published in May. In that series, the
protagonist purchases a bakery and turns half of it into a barkery for dog
treats. And, yes, she winds up having to solve a murder.

We always have Golden Delicious apples and organic bananas in the house... Also blueberries to make smoothies with and to add to breakfast.
