I’m so pleased that my third Harlequin Mills & Boon medical romance is out!
The hero of FLIRTING WITH DR. OFF-LIMITS is a hot-shot surgeon who made
a bad ethical decision back in medical school when he got involved with a
teacher of his, resulting in a nasty scandal that marred his reputation and got
the teacher fired. Now that his best friend’s youngest sister has finished med
school and shown up on his teaching rotation at the hospital, he’s got to make
sure their relationship stays strictly professional. Problem is, the attraction
he’s feeling isn’t at all professional, it’s extremely personal!
Katy Pappas crushed on Alec for years when they were young, until he
disappointed her in more ways than one. She’s sure she’s completely over that
crush for good, until she’s impressed by what a good doctor he is. Until she
notices how great his butt looks in those sexy scrubs of his. Until he surprises
her with a devastating kiss that proves the crush isn’t gone at all—in fact,
it’s morphed into something hotter, all grown-up, and completely irresistible!
In this early scene in the book, Alec has stopped by her brother’s house after
teaching rounds, and is shocked by his reaction to Katy when there’s a little
mishap at dinner:
“To you, Katy.”
Maybe it was because she couldn’t see too well through the tears in her eyes,
but for whatever reason, as she tried to clink her glass to his, she completely
missed. And managed to toss most of her glass of wine straight onto his lap.
“Oh! I’m so sorry, Alec!” Katy leaped from her seat, grabbing her napkin to
vigorously dab at the wine staining the bottom of his shirt, moving down to dab
even harder at the biggest pool of liquid in a place he didn’t want her dabbing.
Or maybe he did, because seeing her hands on his groin and feeling them pressing
against him shortened his breath, stepped up the beat of his heart and invited
an instant physical response he couldn’t control.
“Let me handle it, Katy,” he said, firmly grabbing her wrist before she could
feel exactly what was happening to him and embarrass them both.
“But the stain is setting, and— Oh!” Suddenly her motions stilled and her
widening eyes met his. Obviously his body’s response to her hands all over him
was plenty clear.
“Yeah. Oh.” What else could he say? Except, maybe, Touch me some more,
please.
It was fun combining the Friends-to-Lovers and Brother’s Best Friend tropes, and
I threw in Teacher/Student for good measure! :-) I loved these two characters
and how hard they tried to do the ‘right’ thing, but ultimately had to give in
to their feelings. There are also some interesting and surprising medical
scenes, so if you’re a fan of Grey’s Anatomy, The Night Shift,
or other medical shows, I think you’d enjoy reading this story as well!
About Robin Gianna
After completing a degree in journalism, working in the advertising industry,
then becoming a stay-at-home mom, Robin Gianna had what she likes to call her
‘awakening’. She decided she wanted to write the romance novels she’d loved
since her teens. Robin embarked on that quest by joining RWA and a local
chapter, and working hard at learning the craft of fiction writing.
Robin loves pushing her characters toward their own happily-ever-afters! When
she’s not writing, Robin’s life is filled with a happily messy kitchen, a needy
garden, a wonderful husband, three great kids, a drooling bulldog and one
grouchy Siamese cat. Visit her website.
