Boo-k Spectacular Costume Party | Linda O. Johnston's Rory Chasen Gets Superstitious

This October, some of your favorite authors will be dressing up their characters for a very special virtual costume party, as part of Fresh Fiction's Halloween Boo-k Spectacular event! So come on in--the party's just starting!

Rory Chasen of the Superstition Mysteries isn't superstitious--maybe. Nor is she trying to attract men since she has gone to Destiny, California, to determine the reality of superstitions after her fiancé died after walking under a ladder.

But since arriving in Destiny with her black and white dog Pluckie, Rory has learned that black dogs, and black and white ones, are considered quite lucky. That's why she has chosen to dress up in an not especially sexy black dog costume, or more likely just wear dalmation ears over her own dark sweatshirt and pants. Maybe that will bring good luck to her and those she joins at the party.

She considered coming as a black cat, but most black cat costumes she found were too sexy for her in her current state of mind... and besides, black cats are bad luck, not good luck, if one happens to cross your path.

Also, since Rory is now managing the Lucky Dog Boutique, it makes sense for her to dress as a... well, lucky dog. And Halloween, with all of its attendant superstitions, is an excellent holiday for Rory to celebrate life and being in Destiny... never mind that one of her first friends in Destiny becomes a murder suspect and Rory has to try to clear her, notwithstanding having brought her own good luck black and white dog to town.

Rory would be calm and observant at the costume party, drinking a little but not going overboard, trying to determine if any superstitions were at work there.

And... fingers crossed that she made the right costume decision.
