Forty-five Jeaniene Frost fans perched among the shabby-chic décor of
the Chocolate Angel Tea Room & Café in Plano this weekend,
eager to spend time in the presence of one of our favorite authors. Readers came
from all over Texas for a chance to meet with the New York Times
bestselling author of the Night Huntress series, and the savory faire of petite
sandwiches, quiches, and croissants added an extra dose of indulgence to the
afternoon.
As we savored the cranberry white chocolate scones, each group raved about all
things paranormal romance. So many author and title recommendations were
discussed that readers were diving for their phones and tablets to download all
their new finds. As the dessert course—a divine arrangement of sugar cookie
thumbprints, raspberry fudge, and Russian tea cakes—was served, our wonderful
author guest, Jeaniene Frost, stood to tell us about her journey so far.
Interested in writing since she was thirteen, Frost had been approaching her
30th birthday when she finally decided to get down to business and make her
dream happen, which led to an actual dream about a half-vampire/vampire couple
arguing. That dream then spread out into a full story, which we now know as HALFWAY TO THE
GRAVE, and the rest, as they say, is history.
An avid fan of all things sinister and spooky since childhood, Frost was not
surprised to find her writing voice in the paranormal genre. To the unanimous
amusement of the group, Frost told the story of a nearly prophetic incident with
her pastor at church when she was quite young; the pastor pointed to the cross
on the wall and asked little Jeaniene, “Do you know what that is?” to which she
confidently replied, “That keeps the vampires away.”
Frost thrilled all her fans by spending time at every table and staying late to
ensure that all books were signed. As the evening approached, readers couldn't
wait to make our ways home to sink our teeth into newly signed copies of THE BEAUTIFUL
ASHES (and we can't wait to sink our teeth into more scones next time we
meet...).
