Elisabeth Barrett | Summer's End
September 8, 2013
Summer went by too quickly, didn't it? Now that my kids are back in school, I'm
back to a full fall work schedule. The weather is growing cooler and lazy
midsummer days seem a distant memory. I'll chalk that up to the frenetic pace of
the first few weeks of school with its ever-growing list of forms and
back-to-school events. Summer's end is always bittersweet for me. One last jump in the lake. One final
twilight barbeque. One more evening catching fireflies on the lawn (or at least
giving it a good try). I know I have to enjoy everything to the fullest because
come fall and winter, I'll only have my memories to keep me warm. This year, summer's end was especially important for me. August saw the release
of Slow Summer Burn,
the fourth and final book in my Cape Cod-set Star Harbor series featuring the
four fabulous Grayson brothers. It's always hard to say goodbye to old friends,
but I knew that many Star Harbor readers had been waiting patiently (some not so
patiently) for the story of the fourth Grayson brother, and for the conclusion
to other story lines from the prior books in the series. In Slow Summer Burn, I focused on
Val's story but also did my best to bring back the extended Star Harbor cast. Val Grayson is a soft-spoken-but-tough DEA agent. Now that his younger brothers
are settled in Star Harbor and have found loves of their own, it's Val's turn,
but socialite Cameron Stahl isn't the type of woman that Val thought he would go
for. They seem to have nothing in common except their incredible chemistry and
their fierce loyalty to their friends and family. I loved writing these two
together--their struggles, their sacrifices, and ultimately their love--which
triumphs over everything else they're facing. Plus, there was the joy in writing about Star Harbor, a town I now know as
intimately as my own. The community is so tightly-knit that everyone knows one
another, and part of the fun in wrapping up the series was figuring out how many
cameos I could safely squeeze in without compromising the storyline.
Though Ive contemplated writing a prequel to the Star Harbor series, as well as
another related three-book series, I'm putting those projects on the back burner
to work on other exciting pieces! So for now (but hopefully not forever), I'll
have to say goodbye to Star Harbor and to summer! GIVEAWAY! To thank you for stopping by, let me know what you miss about summer and one
commenter will be randomly selected to win a digital copy of SLOW SUMMER BURN! About Slow Summer Burn: As the sizzling Star Harbor series concludes, the fourth sexy Grayson brother, a
dedicated DEA agent, shows a high-society beauty the true meaning of love.
Cameron Stahl has everything, so why does she feel like her life is incomplete?
A beautiful Boston socialite and a successful entrepreneur, she's just opened
her second boutique in Star Harbor and business is booming. But one searing look
from Val Grayson sends fire through her body and shows her exactly what's
missing from her life: a real man who doesn't play games and who makes her feel
like the most desired woman on earth. DEA agent Val Grayson has always looked after his brothers. Now it's his turn to
find love--though Cam is the last sort of woman he ever dreamed he'd fall for.
When courageous Cam realizes she has the insider connections to help Val take
down a major drug player within Boston's political elite, he can't stop her from
putting herself in danger. But as the drug bust of his career looms, all Val
cares about is saving the woman he loves before it's too late. About the author: Elisabeth Barrett lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and spends her days
teaching, editing, writing sexy contemporary romance, and enjoying time with her
sometimes-bearded husband and three spirited children. She is constantly
perfecting her home-work-writing juggling act, but in her free time she loves to
hike open space preserves, grow orchids, bake sweet things her husband won't
eat, and sing in grand choruses.

Sounds like a book I would enjoy... as for summer, will not really miss it... not much of a summer girl. (Colleen Conklin 1:05pm September 8, 2013)
I agree, the end of summer is bittersweet. Besides the dips in the pool, grilling suppers nearly every nite under the beautiful stars, I will miss my gardens. (We live in the country, so the stars twinkle with delight in their various arrangements and are fascinating to watch ... unlike being in the city with so many lights that it is hard to tell if there are any stars up there.) Besides having some gorgeous flower gardens, I also attempt a vegetable garden each year.... usually adding something new and exciting to my various vegetables. Then, too soon, it will be fall and those warm summer evenings will turn into crisp fall nights. Time to can some of the vegetables from my garden (that didn't get eaten up on a daily basis or shared with others who don't have the luxury of veggies picked fresh every day) and make jams and jellies from various fruits picked during the summer months (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc) and apples, pears, peaches, etc., picked in the fall. Those jams, jellies and canned veggies will bring nice memories as well as tasty treats this winter while the snow blows and drifts around our cozy home. Thanks so much for having this contest, so that your fans have the opportunity to TRY their luck @ winning one of your amazing books. :) Good Luck to all but I am hoping that I will be the lucky winner.
