I'm so excited to be visiting Fresh Fiction for the first time. I met these awesome ladies in person at Romantic Times in May, and they are just as great in person as they are in print. I'm also very excited to be celebrating the upcoming release of my first novel!

LUCK OF THE DRAGON is the first book in the Las Vegas Dragons series. Alec, my uber hot, Joe Manganiello-looking hero owns a ritzy Las Vegas casino, which provides a hidden-in-plain-sight sanctuary for his dragon-shifting people. His only problem is that Lucy, the sexy gem appraiser trying to steal from him, just might be his mate.

One of the things I really love about Alec and Lucy is the way they use banter to throw barbs at each other. I was pondering the real-worldness of their dialogue, when my husband and I went out for date night. All right, we did have our three kids in tow, but it still counted as date night, because the restaurant served beer and had an in-sight video game to keep the kids occupied. Baby-sitting for quarters—gotta love it!

"Let's try some banter," I said to my husband.

"You come here often?" he asked.

"Only when hot dudes are around." (We were a little out of practice)

My 5 year old came running over, "Mom. We need more quarters. QUICK!"

"Okay, okay," I searched through my purse and sent him off. "That is why I could never really pick up hot dudes in a bar." I sighed ready to abandon the attempt. "Three kids under the age of 10."

My husband smiled and looked undeterred. "You've got a lock on your door, don't you?"

"My house door?"

"No," he corrected his misstep. "On your bedroom door."

I looked at him, thinking if this was real life, I would be so out of there. "Yes."

"There's no problem then."

"I'm not interested in giving my key to just any ole hot dude."

"Why not?" My husband leaned forward, and I knew he was going to try to pretend-win me over.

"I don't want someone who's going to flick the key in and out of my lock and be gone. I want someone to get to know my tumblers."

My husband looked thoughtful and smiled "Oh, I can give you a tumble."

LMAO! I spit out my Black Butte Porter, and immediately thought, I need to write that down.

Here is Alec trying, unsuccessfully, to win over Lucy when they first meet. Don't tell my husband, but Alec is way quicker on his feet. :-)

"We need to have your appraisal done before we can open the exhibit to the public in September," Alec said, his voice casual. "When can you start?"
"But there must be fifty cases in here." Luciana peered over his shoulder and pointed behind him. "Are all the cases as full as this one?"
"I was told you were the best?" Alec let the challenge dangle.
"I am. But getting an accurate value on this many gems will take time. And it's going to cost you. A lot."
Alec laughed and ignored the urge to touch her again. "I imagine I can afford your price."
Lucy scowled. "Let's get something straight. I'm not interested in your private collection of obscure etchings...or anything else private you might have."
"How do you know? The reviews on my, what did you call them...etchings are quite flattering." Alec watched her face, liking the way heat flushed her pale neck, and her brown eyes snapped with annoyance.

Hot, dragon-sized shenanigans ensue! I hope you enjoy Alec and Lucy's story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

All my best,

Susannah Scott

I think having a few young ones makes the conversation a little more engaging, you have to work hard at it, and become creative. Banter is the way to this girl's heart - entice me, make me laugh. I like that you tested the real world.

What is life without daily laughter!? Your book sounds like a lot of fun!
(Linda Brennan 10:39pm June 26, 2013)

I also used to have three boys under the age of 10, so I know what going out with them is like. You need about four more hands and a set of earplugs! Never a dull moment!
Your first book sounds great...and now that mine are all grown up, I have plenty of time to relax, put my feet up, and enjoy reading!!!
(Linda Luinstra 5:59pm June 27, 2013)

I love the bantering dialogues. I have to chuckle a bit over them. I love reading books with dragons. Thanks for sharing.

own manuscripts.
