Earlier this year, Madeline Hunter moved time periods from her rich and
descriptive medieval Europe to the, dare I say it, swash buckling
Regency era. Manners were regimented, duels forbidden but an underground right
of passage and way of life for men of the early 19th century in Western Europe.
And not limiting her scope to the stratified and overwritten England, Ms.
Hunter details the life and passions of men and women moving between the
fossilized aristocrats who've survived political revolutions but now face the
new social revolution brought on by the products of the Industrial Revolution.
Out of this mix Ms. Hunter introduced us to THE SEDUCER, THE
SAINT, THE CHARMER, and THE SINNER -- stories of four men who
made their own way in a changing society. But through all the stories, one man
stood out -- Julian Hampton. He certainly was able to help his fellow Dueling
Society members but he obviously had a story that begged to be told.
THE ROMANTIC is Julian's story -- a tale of unrequited, dare I say,
passion? Of course I may! And Julian certainly has a story worth
reading! From the private rooms of London's great houses to the wilds of the
country side to the chambers of law, THE ROMANTIC delivers on the
promise of a fabulous read! The details of the rich tapestry of 19th century
London only add to the compelling story of Julian and Lady Pen. Ms. Hunter is a
master not only of great story telling but also of providing a detailed setting
that feels authentic.
Over all, THE ROMANTIC was worth the looooonnng wait!
