Kristan Higgins | UNTIL THERE WAS YOU

goodreadsfacebookYouTubetwitterbookbubpinterestInstagram

Does the experience of going to a prom really ever change? It would seem all proms are populated with similar cliques like the mean girls, the fringe kids, the smart asses and of course the invisibles.

Posey Cordelia Osterhagen's prom did not live up to her negligible expectations. She hoped being invited to the prom by a popular jock would elevate her from being invisible to perhaps being accepted by anyone. For Posey, school was a barren wasteland of kids who barely noticed her and when they did it was with cruel or snide comments about her appearance and so when given the choice -- she chose to be invisible. During high school Liam Murphy had become a big part of Posie's life and dreams. It seemed her parents had also seen beyond the tough biker when they gave Liam a job at their family German restaurant Guten Tag. The Osterhagen's saw a caring and gentle young man who worked hard to keep up the bad boy image, basically with relationships with any girls who caught his eye. This image was his way of coping with a rough life and a very poor opinion of himself. Less than successful in school because of a learning problem, Liam used his image to become part of the popular kids even if he realized that he didn't actually elevate his station in life with their friendship. But meeting Emma Tate who had it all and yet accepted and loved Liam was going to change his life forever. Posie was crushed watching Liam and Emma getting closer even acknowledging that Liam was way out of her league.

When Liam returns to town with a teenage daughter after losing Emma, Posie has to once again face some angst filled feelings toward Liam. Deeply imbedded anger over his humiliating remarks to her prom date made her less than happy to see him back in town even though she had to admit Liam's disarming charm still made her blush. And since it was a small town they inevitably ran into each other. The mutual attraction was impossible to dismiss leaving Posie further conflicted over her feelings for Liam. Even acknowledging her growing attachment to Liam she still couldn't seem to develop trust and when Liam voiced his desire to remain uncommitted Posie went along willingly. But Posie's heart had other ideas. She thought his desire to remain detached stemmed from his feelings of inadequacy and she became his champion. But the problem was deeper than she could imagine and in the end guarding her heart won. Would Liam step up to the bat and follow his heart?

UNTIL THERE WAS YOU is a beautifully crafted story filled with intriguing characters whose personalities just jumped off the page. Higgins developed an interesting tale with people whose lives intertwined over many years and even the most complex relationships had a basis in love. Reminds me why I am such a fan.

This time I have your name written down on a piece of paper, big as life, because I kept losing it. I want to read your books worse than anything!! The covers are not only colorful, but every one has been adorable, but tells a story in its' own way. I have definately put you at the top of my TBR list!! Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and telling your story here today. Not only did you bring back memories of my prom from so many years ago, and I was one of the invisible ones, I might add, but you gave me the reminder that I really wanted to read your books!! I am a fan, and needed that nudge!!
(Peggy Roberson 5:48pm November 15, 2011)

I love your books and as a dog lover, your book covers always catch my eye.
(Robin McKay 6:02pm November 15, 2011)

It is always interesting to me when people re-meet after many years. This sounds like a very interesting read. Good luck on your next book
(Kathleen Bianchi 6:21pm November 15, 2011)

I've read all of Kristan Higgin's books. She has the knack of making her characters so realistic that I feel like I have lived their experiences. Her sense of humor is priceless. As a fellow dog lover, I applaud her references to dogs. Keep those fun novels coming!
(Linda Prindle 6:31pm November 15, 2011)

Thanks for the great giveaway! Some of the best stories
I've read are the ones where the "bad boy" leaves town for
an extended period of time only to return to discover that
the "girl he left behind" (for whatever reason) is "the
woman of his dreams". Yeah, you know it ends in romantic
bliss but it's the journey to HEA that makes for a great
story. I have a feeling this is one of those! Definitely
count me in!
(Laura Henderson 6:46pm November 15, 2011)

I Love that dog on the cover!
(Diane Sallans 6:47pm November 15, 2011)

I have wonderful memories of my prom. I would love to read this!
(Lisa Garrett 7:35pm November 15, 2011)

I love second chance stories. Thanks for the giveaway.
(Jennifer Beyer 7:57pm November 15, 2011)

Im poor but i love your books....please pick me!
(Carrie Carlson 8:06pm November 15, 2011)

Never went to prom. It's not my thing. Would love to win a book.
(Michelle Fidler 8:16pm November 15, 2011)

Pick me???? Please??
(Kelly Watson 8:47pm November 15, 2011)

I so want to read about Posey and Liam.
(Lisa Kendall 8:51pm November 15, 2011)

This sounds like a book I want to read!
(Cheryl McEwen 9:00pm November 15, 2011)

I don't even remember my prom. Sounds like a great read.
(Sheila True 10:09pm November 15, 2011)

This book's title seems like it should be the title of a romantic song.
(Joanne Hicks 10:45pm November 15, 2011)

The people we were when we were younger are the people we wish we could have given the confidence and knowledge that we hold now. Being older and a bit more aware of what a person is really about makes me think Liam is in for a mind boggling adventure.
(Darci Paice 11:58pm November 15, 2011)

Love to win a copy of the book in paperback of 'Until There Was You' by Kristan Higgins.....the book sounds sooo [email protected]
(Lnda McFarland 12:02pm November 16, 2011)

Hi Kristan! I love your books and this sounds like another winner. Thanks for the contest.
(Cathy Phillips 11:20am November 16, 2011)

Prom seems so far away. I went to a school that had 200 people, my
class 26.. those cliques were all represented. Funny I just went down
memory lane with my best friend, whom I met in high school, and it left
me feeling young and fresh again.
(Carla Carlson 11:26am November 16, 2011)

I loved Prom. i went in my junior and senior year and a very fun experience. Loved the dresses, dancing, and hanging out with friends. I would love to win and read his book, so plese choose me for the giveaway.
(Chris Bails 11:35am November 16, 2011)

Until there was You sounds great. I would LOVE to win a copy. Even if I don't, I'll be getting it to read. Best of luck with it.
(Nancy Reynolds 11:39am November 16, 2011)

Not only was I one of "the invisible ones," I never did get to go to Prom. This book really touches places I'd thought were buried so deep, they would never again see the light of day!

Later,

Lynn
(Lynn Rettig 12:35pm November 16, 2011)

Loving the sound of this book... you always have such cute dogs on the covers!
(Colleen Conklin 1:21pm November 16, 2011)

My best prom experience was helping my daughter get ready for hers.
(MaryEllen Hanneman 3:10pm November 16, 2011)

I had such a sad feeling after reading about Posey and her prom, but like the idea of her having a second chance. Time can make a big difference in a person.
(Anna Speed 4:31pm November 16, 2011)

I like these books that show how a person can change--or not---over time.
(Sue Farrell 4:49pm November 16, 2011)

There is nothing like a bad boy redeeming himself and claiming the love that he lost.
(Cindy Olp 4:58pm November 16, 2011)

Hi Kristen, I love this story already. Second chances can be great and not so great but hoping this one will be a HEA. Great review and adding to my wish list. Maybe I will be the winner. lol
Thanks for the fab giveaway.
(Brenda Hill 6:50pm November 16, 2011)

I'm in the mood for a light romance.
(Clydia DeFreese 7:56pm November 16, 2011)

Thanks for the post and the giveaway. The book sounds great.
(Patti Paonessa 8:38pm November 16, 2011)

Sweet story of second chance going better than expected. Thanks for showing all aspects of prom for those who go and those who pine for what they didn't get.
(Alyson Widen 8:38pm November 16, 2011)

Please enter me in the giveaway! Thanks!
(Jennifer Beyer 9:55pm November 16, 2011)

Boy, does your comments about the prom bring back memories of my high school days. There were definitely the in-crowd and those overlooked. I had a nice time in high school, however, and hubby and I still meet once a month with a group of graduates from our high school. We're the Tiger Lunch Bunch!
(Gladys Paradowski 10:44pm November 16, 2011)

I would love to win this book.
(Pat Lieberman 10:45pm November 16, 2011)

Memories. We all have them. How they affect out lives shows who we are.
Second chances don't often happen. It so good to be able the read about a
second chance that goes right. Thanks!
(Sandra Spilecki 9:49am November 17, 2011)

Enjoyed the post! Love the story already of second chances, bad-boy image to be popular, (memories of those kids in high school) and prom and the outcomes. The book sounds great--would love to win it.
