October has been dubbed "Steampunk month" by genre heavyweight Tor.com, and it’s no surprise with all
that’s been going on this month!
Steampunk Fashion and Design will be featured this Saturday, October
24th, at the Brooklyn Indie Market,
followed by a Steampunk
afterparty at the first and only Steampunk bar in Brooklyn, The
Waystation.
This weekend also marks the first annual Steam
Con, happening in Seattle, with Guests of Honor, author Tim Powers (one of the authors
about whom "steampunk" was coined) and the artist and author of the new book,
Boilerplate, History’s
Mechanical
Marvel (newly nominated for a 2009 Los Angeles Times Book Prize
for Best Graphic Novel), Paul Guinan!
The visually decadent New York arts group, Dances of Vice, which puts on
Victorian and Rococo themed parties and performances, will be having a Victorian
themed Halloween party this year, and Boilerplate will be one of the
costume contest prizes!
Lastly (for the time being), from now until February 2010, the Oxford Museum of
Science is hosting the first museum exhibition of Steampunk
art!
