Gerry Bartlett | Forget those resolutions! How about a revolution?
January 13, 2009
Gerry Bartlett here, author of the REAL VAMPIRES series
from Berkley. Like my vampire Glory St. Clair, I have an antique business. Too
bad it was on the historic Strand in Galveston. Hurricane Ike swooped in and
dumped eight feet of water in the shop. Of course, as a writer, I love books and
had to watch a mini-bulldozer shove hundreds of my precious volumes to the curb.
Sigh. Can you blame me if I’m more than ready to kiss 2008 good-bye? Enough of looking back. Time to look ahead. To a new year. And I vowed a long
time ago to never start another year with resolutions. They last just long
enough to give me a serious case of the guilts. You know those resolutions. One:
Lose weight. Yeah, right. I stick to that diet just until temptation crosses my
path. Writer, know thyself. And when a chocolate chip cookie calls my name?

I Gerry, What a awful thing to happen to your store. I also live in a hurricane prone area and know that when a large storm is on its way your have to batten sown the hatches and hope for the best. I read you blog. Funny stuff adbou the dust bunnies and New years resolutions. I agree with you completely on all accounts. Especially trying to make yourself a priority in the 2009. Hi Gerry, I would be thrilled to win an autographed book from you. I think you writers are awesome.
Hugs, Lorraine (Lorraine Larose 5:58pm January 13, 2009)
Gerry, I may be a little late, but I just wanted to express my sympathy on having to go through that loss. I love Galveston. I'm in the Baton Rouge area. So even though we get hit, it's nowhere close to the devastation Galveston has suffered.
One question: did you lose any WIP's? If I did, I think I would be so disheartened, I'd have writer's block for a long time. Best wishes, Julie (Julie Robinson 9:37am January 14, 2009)
Hey Gerry,
We're practically neighbors -- I live in the San Antonio area, and while Ike was dumping on you, he passed us by and we're in a critical drought condition -- 18 inches under annual rainfal for 2008.
I collect books also, and I think I would just crawl in bed with the cover over my head and never come out if something happened to "my best friends"...
LOve your new attitude and your books. Keep on truckin' gal. (Betty Cox 10:58am January 14, 2009)
