Yes, I certainly agree that it is their confidence that, in part, makes them an alpha. The other qualities vary greatly. Those qualities, in a large part, are what attract us, I believe.

I think that you hit the nail on the head regarding Brad Pitt. He's definately not an alpha male. As for an alpha male having that title on confidence alone, I think that there is a little more to it. I think it would go by how he feels in his heart, as well as a bit of a can-do attitude or "bossiness." There is a time for him to take charge, and also a way to do it without coming on too strong. I hope that made sense. I have to compliment you on a stunning book cover, and I can't wait to read it. Congratulations!!

I think you got this absolutely right. Even when you know they aren't good for you, their confidence is a turn on. I always thought that maybe it was because I'm not the most confident of people but I find even strong women fall for them too. I think it's something in our genetic makeup lol.

I agree with you that an alpha male is defined by competence, but also other atributes. When I think of an alpha, I think of a strong, caring, giving, and smart man. As far as Brad Pitt goes, I don't think of him as an alpha but as a horse's petutie.

I agree that Pitt doesn't have an alpha bone in him. I think that is why he and Angelina get along so well. I think that confidence is a stong factor in the alpha male but also strength. I love the cover Inara- it is beautiful.

I agree with you. Some men are jerks but they are competence to get things done. When I think of it, not all alpha are as good looking as Brad Pitt. That's probably why they are competence with the charisma to attract us female. Brad Pitt may not be alpha but his good looks make up for it.

You had me chuckling at the Brad Pitt angle, I always thought of him as a handsome guy and talented actor but never really considered him "alpha." Of course, not knowing him, it could just be most of the roles he has played.

Confidence is key but the other side of it is the ability to convince others of the action/opinion. There actually are confident people out there who could not persuade anyone about anything and they are not alpha to me.

balls I am in agreement that looks don't make an Alpha Male.
However I think it's not just the total confidence but some
kind of sexual chemistry that they seem to emit as well that
makes them Alpha.

I think Brad Pitt is somewhat an alpha male because he shows a great deal of emotion and caring through his efforts to build homes in New Orleans, and doing much physical labor himself. If he wasn't a take-charge person, he wouldn't get involved in any such efforts. Angelina is definitely the stronger alpha in their relationship. She has a big ego and can walk into a room and own it, with her tough-girl immage. Perhaps, it's rubbing off onto Brad, and that's why they're good for each other! I don't know if anyone's seen Brad's movie he made and starred in, "Tree of Life", but he plays a tough, mean father role in it. It's hard to believe the handsome image is lost, in viewing this very strange (not-so-good), movie. A very unusual role for him. Guess, is alpha is coming out!

Awesome post! I'd have to agree a good alpha male that you wouldn't want to shoot on spot would be one that was confident without being overbearing and strong without overpowering. I also agree that Brad Pitt isn't an alpha. He seems pretty easygoing and zen in his real life so maybe just some of the characters he plays. When he was Achilles in that movie, Troy(?), he played it pretty well.

I agree Alphas are defined by their confidence. One of my favorite fictional Alphas is Dean Winchester of Supernatural. He just oozes confidence and sex appeal. Brad Pitt doesn't strike me as being Alpha, but more laid back.

I thought I was the only woman who was attracted to your not popular man and turned off by the most popular. I have found Brad Pitt unappealing and of course I am attracted to House.. I also find the strong man - intellectually very alluring. I saw Anonymous and found myself attracted to Rhys Ifans.
I think I also choose lovers the same way, afterall the real aphrodisaic is the mind.
