Deborah Matthews
Deborah was born in Cullman, Alabama, where a love of reading
was nourished. While attending Cullman High School, she was on
the high school newspaper staff. Upon graduating, she moved
to Montgomery to work for the state government. After twenty-seven
years, Deborah retired from state government. Deborah has been an avid reader since a very young age. She began
reading romances while a teenager and fell in love with the dark
heroes, happily-ever-after, and being transported to another time
and place. After writing poetry for many years, in 1995 she decided
to try writing a romance novel. After three years and many rejections, on July 8, 1998, she
received "the call" and became a published author. Deborah made
her first sale to Kensington's new line, Precious Gem Historical.
Her novel, BOLD AND BONNY, is set in Regency Scotland and
was released in April of 1999. Deborah's second novel, A GIFT OF LOVE, was released
November 1999. Also a Kensington Precious Gem Historical, it is
set in Regency England. A couple come together during the
Twelve Days of Christmas and discover the truest gift -- love. Deborah's third Precious Gem Historical, THE ART OF LOVE,
will be released May 2000. Mattie Somerton must retrieve a forged
painting from a museum to save her father from prison. She falls in
love with the Renaissance art expert who can be her
solution or her doom. "There is something magical about sharing characters from your own
imagination. I hope people laugh, enjoy my stories, and find
romance in their own lives." While waiting to hear yea or nay on other manuscripts and
proposals, Deborah continues to write. Deborah lives in
central Alabama with David, her husband of fifteen years, and
enjoys writing full-time. She possesses a fondness for chocolate,
cats, reading, collecting cookie jars, and counted cross-stitch.
