Steven Berglas

Steven Berglas

Steven Berglas is a management consultant, executive coach, and clinical psychologist on the faculty of the John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA. Previously, Dr. Berglas spent twenty-five years on the faculty of Harvard Medical School's Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Berglas is the author of Reclaiming The Fire: How Successful People Overcome Burnout (Random House, 2001) which details how corporate executives, business managers, lawyers, and other professionals struggle to find meaning in careers they have mastered. Berglas is also the author of three other books that explain how the allegedly positive consequences of success can cause a number of vocational, interpersonal, and psychological problems ranging from depression and drug abuse to career self-sabotage and more flagrant forms of self-destructive behavior.

Dr. Berglas has presented his insights on how to identify and prevent psychological disorders unique to high achievers to scores of businesses and professional groups including the AMA, APA, ABA and YPO, and lectures widely on "executive psychology" as applied to entrepreneurs and business leaders.

Berglas also uses his twenty-five years of experience to consult with corporate executives on various aspects of management psychology including leadership training, employee retention, and the development of prevention programs designed to curb burnout and white collar crime.

Dr. Berglas introduced and wrote the Entrepreneurial Ego column for Inc. Magazine for over two years, and his writings have been featured in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and several professional journals. In addition to public speaking, Berglas is a regular guest on talk shows including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Dateline NBC, TODAY, Good Morning America, The CBS Evening News, and The Koppel Report. Stories about Berglas's research have appeared in scores of periodicals including Fortune, TIME, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, People and The Times of London.

Berglas received his B.A. at Clark University, his Ph.D. at Duke University, and his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School.
