Zaki Chehab
Zaki Chehab – author, journalist and political editor of
London-based Al Hayat and of the Arabic TV channel LBC.
Zaki Chehab is one of the Arab world's leading journalists
and has unrivalled qualifications to do justice to the
subject of his book Inside the Resistance (US - Nation
Books) / Iraq Ablaze (I.B.Tauris - World x US, France,
Germany, Italy, Spain), which provides the first
authoritative portrait of the insurgency in all its
complexity. Zaki Chehab has covered conflicts in the Middle East for
more than 25 years including the Civil War in Lebanon, the
1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon, the Intifada in the West
Bank and Gaza and the wars in Yemen, the Gulf and
Afghanistan. His first encounter with Saddam Hussein in
Iraq was in 1978, shortly after Saddam executed his rivals
in the Ba'ath Party. Chehab's close contact with many key
figures within the Iraqi opposition goes back 15 years.
Chehab has interviewed many of the world's leaders
including Bill Clinton, Saddam Hussein, George Bush senior,
Margaret Thatcher, John Major and most of the Arab world's
kings, sheikhs, and presidents. In the recent conflict in Iraq, Zaki Chehab reported from
the cities of Iraq as they fell to the American and British
forces. He was the first journalist to broadcast interviews
with the Iraqi Resistance and has appeared on CNN, Channel
4, BBC and other international news channels to comment on
the growth of these groups. He has also published articles
in The Guardian (UK) , The Baltimore Sun and been quoted in
La Republica (Italy) and La Stampa (Italy). He is in
discussion with a major international network to produce a
